Technical 39-48 Ford Transmission question, clutch size 10" vs 11', size matters

I currently have a 10" disc installed behind the 265. Just wondering if I should worry about sizing up to the heavier duty 11" ?
They are the same price, so I figure overkill is the Roothawg way.

I have a little heavier flywheel I am going with. Thought the 11" setup would be the next logical addition. I know they used them in trucks etc.

I assume it is just a bolt up?

When I did the Olds in my 32 back in '61 with the 39 trans I used an 11" p/plate with a 10 1/2 in disc " because that's what the little books said to use............also used a hyd slave cyl.

Interesting. I wonder why not the 11" disc? I found this in the archives. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/ford-11-inch-clutch.849811/

  4. I thought that the 11 had clearance issues but it has been way to long for me to recall correctly.

  5. I think on a light car like a model A it wont matter as you will smoke the tires before the clutch starts to slip.On a heavy car with wide tires you might want more clutch. If you have a banjo rear end the axle key might have something to say before the clutch does.

This has the Cragar adaptor if that matters. This car isn't a powerhouse anyway. I have a heavy flywheel that dad ran behind his 265 with the same type of tranny, he says it made a world of difference coming out of the hole. It should help it feel smoother at lower rpm's as well. I may just reuse everything I have and just get the disc relined.

With a 265, an 11" would be overkill and probably hard on the leg. On the "Barn" it seems that most every one that used one regretted it. Some of them changed back, if that tells you anything.

You said the 265 is just a nice mild engine, and from the clutch back the drive line is adequate but not exactly stout. So why mess with it.? You know that as you upgrade it just exposes the next weak link. Freshen it up and drive it.

The larger the disc, increases the chance for chatter, the 10" should fill the need.
