First problem will be God bringing his wrath down on you for putting that weird French engine in a Ford. Other than that with an adapter it's almost a bolt in with a Hurst mount and a little wiring. Ive bought quit a few flathead radiators over the years modified for sbc as well. They probably cooled fine given their thickness.

I owned a 40 sedan that got cut into my friends car that had been running a small block. Was seriously totally stock except the remnants of a torched Hurst mount were in there . otherwise you would have thought it was a flathead car its whole life.

People snickering but pretending it was something they thought of from earlier, definitely not your car.

  6. I'd guess you will spend more time with wiring and cooling stuff than bolting in a sbc.
exhaust manifold choice is necessary, front dump or rear dump.

Didn't they all come that way?

  11. Early Cad fits just as well... and it's not just another 40 with just another sbc in it.

Been done a million times. Wouldn't exactly call it hot rodding, hell Walmart might even have the swap motor mounts you need in stock.

Yes, I know I will be going to flathead hell and shunned like a cheap hussy but unless someone has a crack free 8BA shit will get real here pretty soon.

it might be a head gasket since some monkey too this up to 9:1 with 175 pounds compression. Will take the GD Edlebroke 63 CC’s off next using some nice 8CM to calm bessie down.

Does anyone make a 1/4” head gasket? That might work.

  17. The only tough part to find for the Swap is the adapter to mount the Fan on the end of the Crankshaft. I had to make the last one I used.

I used to sell a crank mounted fan kit made by a guy from Portland, Oregon. He quit making them when Drake came out with one.

  21. I'm going the other way. Pulling a 350 out of my '40 ford "Woodie" and replacing it with a flathead. I wish you were closer to WV. I'd make you a heck of a deal!

You do realize, don’t you, that @Matt Miller is in NC! That can’t be much over a few hundred miles, if that. Sheesh......:D

  23. I knew that guy and have been trying to come up with his name. For some reason I think Dale Vanderzanden but don't seem like it was him overall. I don't remember Dale being a machinest but big into 40 Ford's. Seen his car with his proto type on it around 1972-or-3. I think my hard drive got full around 1980 and started kicking out seldom used info.

Pist-n-broke, Kenny Jones was the guy that was making the kit. He and Dale were friends and did run together. I haven't heard Dale's name in a long time. He had a really cool red coupe. Nice guy to boot.

If you are going to run cast iron exhaust manifolds try the early Chevelle manifolds they clear the steering box like they were made for the swap. I have a set on my 40 for over 50 years. You may be able to find them at a swap meet cheaper. C06E7216-A53A-446F-9748-FA04D4CFC3EA.png

Why not go with the 235 six? That’s what I installed in my ‘46. Oh, wait a moment, you have a Ford. Never mind.

On my 40 we used the 69/70 Chevy PU right side manifold that points back at an angle and put it on the left side to shoot the exhaust forward/around and down under the 525 box. worked great.

  29. Search for my build thread "the Varmit" and there will be lots of tech info there. It's really easy.
