And I found the fine member selling his 49 ford... we talked and talked , with a few interruptions... trying to figure out how to get it from Petaluma CA to Boise ID...
ultimately we decided that we’d meet in scenic (read dirty) Reno NV!
So the i prepped and found a friend goofy enough to make the kamikaze one day round trip with me and met Johnny in Reno!
I’d like to say I’ve never met a more solid dude than Johnny, he was super accommodating and even helpful... so 414 miles later the shoebox is home, ran like a dream... now to begin giving her some love!

Oh baby, that's a nice one. You need some cool wheels/hubcaps maybe a little lowering and let her rip.

Brand new and a road trip, Already! Great start.

  11. Very cool and neat shoebox! I love a good road trip. One of my best friends just did the same after selling his 32 Ford which he delivered from OK to Vegas via stretcher. He then made a deal on a 56 Mercury and just got home with it after a 750 mile road trip in a car that had only 2000 miles put on it in the last 15 years... These old cars are meant to be driven.

  12. Great ride, cool story. Enjoy!

good that you and seller did a lot of talking to get all details on car before taking the relatively long ride that included some grades to climb - known some that found out about heating problems, old tires and failing brakes the hard way

Man, I envy your road trip! A few years ago I flew from Wisconsin down to Pensacola, Florida to look at a '47 Ford coupe. The car was as advertised, we got the deal done, and I drove the car back home - 1300 miles and the old flathead never missed a beat. It was awesome!

If things go well I will have a different car here in few weeks. This one has a 4:56 rear gear so it will be trailered. Not nearly as much fun.

Bought a 53 Ranch Wagon that had sat in a garage for 10 years. Drove to Tn. and met my brother who hauled it down from Indiana on his trailer. I packed the front wheel bearings and put new points and cond. in the Flattie and headed for Jacksonville,Fl.
It used 13 qts of oil ,but got better as I drove it. After getting home and changing the oil to Shell Rotella and putting some Marvel Mystery oil in it the oil usage got down to about a qt. every 1,000 miles.
Drove that old wagon daily for 2 years before a guy needed it more than I could turn down.
Love those road trips in something you just bought.

  30. Great story! Great find! Looks like she might be a two door sedan. What are your plans???? Check out my website for some tips if you plan to spruce her up!
