North on the I-5 Freeway heading up the coast or to inland OC.

    Hello,
We obviously like Ford sedan deliveries, but somewhere, we just like the smooth sides of a sedan deliveries or panel trucks. Many times it has been mentioned that is why we have owned two different, but similar on the outside looks for our sedan delivery. The cool smooth side panels, the privacy, and utility all played a big part of our liking the sedan deliveries.

What we liked as the smooth rear side panel and door, instead of windows for privacy/sound was the downfall of the sedan delivery for us. What looked better in one instance was what made us not like the panels for overall viewing. Later on, we just could not see in the blind spot in the passenger side right rear area.

So, once that decision was made, we continue to look at all choices for another hot rod. Convertibles are almost as bad, but with the top down it is a wide open space. Back to the sedan deliveries: Our liking the sedan deliveries comes from those smooth side panels, not the versions that have a steel metal plate in the place of a rear side window. It was always the rear door that made the difference between a sedan and sedan delivery. What you could not get inside of a sedan, was put in the small trunk or on top. The sedan delivery was made for deliveries and therefore had that cool opening rear door that made the hot rod functional.

But the sedan delivery has always been a big part of our growing up years and explorations. So, when we see any sedan delivery rolling down the street or on a trailer, it takes us back to those early 1940 Ford sedan delivery days.

This Chevy sedan delivery looked like it had just gotten a new paint job as there are several paint places in the industrial section of the city. Since we have seen this Chevy sedan delivery, it had not popped up at the local Cars and Coffee or the distant Donut Derelicts “used to be” weekly shows.

Does anyone know more about this cool looking Chevy sedan delivery?

What is not to like about a 1940 Ford sedan rear angle photo?

    Hello,

When we were teenagers, we had all kinds of access to different Chevy sedans from 54 to 58. But, one night a 1940 Ford two door sedan rolled into the drive-in restaurant parking lot with a little rumble and a tall shift lever high up inside. It looked very cool and unusual. It was built by a friend and he had the only Buick powered hot rod in the whole time we were actively teenagers or hot rod cruisers. It was not as fast as my 58 Impala, but held its own against several hot cars that always showed up on Friday and Saturday nights.

Since we bought a 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery, that was cool enough for us. It solved plenty of situations that called for a cool looking hot rod and still be able to go to any surfing spot, surf movies or just out for a normal cruise night, with pride and happiness.

But, in the back of my mind, that 2 door sedan always had a ring to it. The rear of the sedan delivery was private and had access to the longer interior for our surfboards when needed for security. The sedan was good for everything else, but no one put surfboards inside or on top for fear of damaging the painted roof. Sand gets everywhere, even though the boards get wiped off before storage for the trip to and from the beach.

Ever since those teenage and 20 something days after we sold the final sedan delivery, we have been on the look out for a 2 door sedan for our next adventures. It has been put on hold while our family and extended family situations get situated for the long run. So, when we saw one sedan sitting around at a neighborhood car show, we could not help but to take some photos and see if it had a for sale sign.

This cool looking 2 door sedan even had the same wheels, small hubcaps and beauty trim rings as our own two 1940 sedan delivery hot rods.

    Hello,

While driving through a coastal town on a sunny day, (after a week's worth of a rainy deluge of a weather front that came rolling through, including hail and winds) that is when a lot of hot rods come out to play and get worked on for daily maintenance.

The beach, ocean, sunny day, little to no traffic and a feeling of relaxation that goes with such a road trip, long or short relieves some pressure of being "couped" (pun intended) up during the pandemic. Once the blue ocean gets its share of “oogling…” and the sun continues to beat down on all of us, then it is hot rod season around So Cal.

So, this “rear end” is typical of one of the nicest old hot rods in town or in So Cal. Maroon, Tahitian Red, Deep Candy Wine, whatever the official color, it stood out among the ordinary cars/sedans and station wagons that are normally found in neighborhoods, old and new.

So Cal hot rod weather has its advantages for everyone. Despite being 36 degrees in the early morning, the cool 50's temperature and sunny skies for the next few weeks will be worth the overall ambience of the locales on road trips in the surrounding open roads.

Yesterday, we took a 60 PLUS mile road trip in the region to take care of some family business. The return highways included a "down the coast" run of the pristine beaches. For some reason, it was the fastest coastal road trip that we have been on in quite some time. The traffic was down, the traffic lights were somehow green, on our side, and it made the cruise a wonderful, unusually fast road trip. The major blockage in Laguna Beach won't start until April, so we needed to take one last drive down that portion of coastline.

(there were some new "classic rear ends" at Ruby's Auto Diner Restaurant in South Laguna, so the monthly exchange of old hot rods is still going on at that location.)

The major blockage of PCH and Broadway in Laguna Beach is the busiest intersection in all of the South Orange County. The traffic, north/south will be down to one lane, due to a massive flood control pipe exchange and repair. So, obviously alternate routes will be necessary.

  19. Don, I really like the tail light treatment on your '56, it looks much better than the original lens. HRP
