I don't know if it's been posted here yet but Leon Fizgerald driver of the famous Pure Heaven bantam altered has passed away.
Pure Heaven and Pure Hell , Leon and Rich where to of the best, right along with Wild Willy and the Winged Express. Although as far as I know Rich is still with us. Hard to believe it has been over 50 years since they inspired this punk kid in the pages of Hot Rod! Of course it is hard to believe this punk kid will be 65 next month lol ! Rest in peace Leon. Larry
Sad news indeed. A lot of our childhood "Rock Stars" of the racing scene are leaving us guess that means WE are getting closer too.
nothing like the passing of immortals to remind us of our mortality........ticking of the clock seems louder to me every time we lose a legend.
Condolences to the Fitzgerald family and friends on the passing of Leon...May Heaven bring Him the Checkered Flag as He passes through the Pearly Gates... @Speed Gems, thanks for sharing this loss to the Colorful World of Go Fast...
Unfortunately, the one competitor that none of us can beat is time. I went to a celebration of life for one of my wife's cousins this past Friday. While there we got to see a lot of folks from her side of the family that we hadn't seen in 10 or 12 years. There was a LOT more gray hair and aches and pains and I was thinking man!, everyone got so old! Then it occurred to me that I was right there with them... My condolences to Mr. Fitzgerald's family and friends. I will say a prayer for you all. Godspeed Leon!
Here is a Hot Rod article on Leon, great reading about his life and career. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/pure-heaven-life-fast-times-fuel-altered-pioneer-leon-fitzgerald/
