I bought my 38 about 2 years ago, love the car, love the style just hated the hood sides. So after 2 years finally dove in.
The idea was to mimic the continued Louvers from grill back, like the standard. The delux has that odd break that softens the look (to me).
Went out bought another hood side chopped it to pieces and started cutting and welding.
**Disclaimer- I am not a welder or fabricator. I have mig welded 3 times before tackling this.
I am quite happy with the turn out. Painted in my driveway with rattle can SEM to match the rest of the paint on the car.

Many automotive customizers like Chip Foose, say that their goal is to redesign and modify something and most people won't even know it's done. I think you have accomplished that. I'll bet other '38 owners will know something is different, but it will take a while for them to notice, nice job!

Didn't anybody ever tell you that you can't do that sort of work until you've welded at least 4 times? ;)

The price of damaged '38 Ford hood sides might go up now.

Very subtle but a huge improvement. It looks the way Henry Ford should have built a 38.
