History Can you I.D. this Pontiac?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by choffman41, Aug 2, 2020.

  1. This is the house where I was born. My dad died in 1947 so I know the Poncho is earlier. I can't tell a '41 from a '46. Anyone know? Thanks.

  2. Looks like a 41
    Neat car

    Going by the tail lights
    Plate frame
And it looks like the car in your pic has the side trim up high on the fenders swooping down into the trunk

  3. It was a 2 door torpedo straight 8. My Dad must have bought it to celebrate my birth. :p I remember sitting on his lap holding the steering wheel while driving up the street.

That's a great memory...my Dad did the same thing with me. I thought I was driving the car.

    Hey Chuck,

Nice old photo of the split level house, way back then. It is a coincidence that our dads both bought a 1941 GM car. Our dad bought a 1941 Buick Fastback and that was also my first ride in a car of any kind. It was a 700+ mile Northern California border to Long Beach, CA. road trip with the family.
upload_2020-8-4_6-6-11.png In 1946, we ended up in a trailer park near PCH and LA River.

The second photo is our first real home near Lions Dragstrip (when built) and the Terminal Island Freeway in 1948, white picket fence and all. That old Craftsman Style home is now a new Elementary School, with our exact address.

The closest 1941 & 1946 Pontiac Fastback sedans I could find were these two:

Hope they help joggle the memories.

Those two models are very similar.

The center (probably) fold down center rear bumper guard says '41, according to the two pics. Also, if there is a gas door on the car in the garage, it is very hard to see. the '46 has one on the driver rear fender, the 41 does not.

Here's a cropped and straightened picture of it.

  8. I learned on a Ford 8N tractor on my grand dads lap. I like the old Pontiacs and remember some good times in them.

  9. The rear bumper appear to be a 41. HRP

  10. The general consensus says it's a '41 which makes sense. Thanks to all the guys that helped ID it. Interesting thing, I googled the house and it looks almost identical after 80 years.
