59 start.jpg I started with a "Monster Truck" from sitting on a Suburban 4x4 frame with a locked up engine.
Figured It couldn't get much worse.

Some may remember this car, previously owned by Denise (Hotrodladycruiser). Well it ended up down here with a little more progress than mine. The owner isn't a HAMBer. LOTS of work to get it from below to painted stage.

  13. Well, I have posted what I have now on several threads, but this is what I actually Started with, my very first "hot rod to be"....a 26-27 Ford Model T coupe, sorta..Unfortunately, a pregnant wife and no job made me sell it, thank goodness.....
But a year later and a new job and I was into hot rods forever.

A decade ago I retired from working, and wanted to build myself my retirement project. I was looking to build a Austin A40 Gasser, similar to Mazmanian's Football Austin, but without the chop top. I began searching for A40's when I ran across an earlier Austin A8 sedan. I'd never seen the A8's before, but they were similar looking to an Anglia, except slightly smaller. This one was about 40 miles away at an equipment sales company SW of me, so called the seller and headed out with the car trailer. After a quick look over, I paid his asking price, as the car was 99% rust free, and except for missing gauges, 100% complete and original. And under $2,000 it was a no brainer.
So this is what I started with.

About 6 months later I had the 327 engine in it, with TH350, narrowed Pontiac rear axle, narrowed tube front axle, and just a couple racing buckets inside. I left most the original paint, other than where I'd done some bodywork, which I shot in satin black to help match the faded pre WWII paint. Most everything in it was junkyard or swap meet parts, and the engine came from a friend's old Chevy pickup. I swapped heads, and cam, and put the old Holley Pro Dominator intake on it.

Drove the car all summer like that, and then that fall I stripped it down to bare metal, and began more bodywork, and prepped for paint. Once I'd shot it in epoxy sealer, I took it to a local hotrod paint shop and he did the dark red metallic paint #74 Corvette Dark Red Metallic. Then I did all the new interior, and replaced the high back buckets with CJ5 low back buckets. Replaced the 14" slots up front with Ansen 15"x 3.5" slots, and the MT Sportmans got replaced with Towel City cheater slicks. It's been this way for 9 years now. Just driving it and enjoying it.

    1. Y-blocks

Being I started with hacking up model cars, with ideas I liked best, formed from little book mag.s in the early 1950s.
It was, what seemed a long hunt for free parts off cars dumped in the woods and other places. By 1959 I had a running hot rod to drive to high school. Looking back,it would be fun to of had photos of pile of parts as it grew. Really work an not pics was what got my rod together, many parts had to be redone a number times before it worked or looked right. I have save one early photo of how things looked for first test drive around the block. With in a few weeks of working bugs out after this photo,I painted it shiny an built better header in two months. Last pic when Y-block got 3/4 cam n heads milled in 64, an after putting it back in ,I removed the roll bar. 28ar.jpg HRZ2.jpg

  27. Dana, love the early pics of your car. What is the sports car sitting next to it?

Bought my 40 ford project in 2002 body was painted prior and suspension was done. All electrical, drivetrain, cooling, fuel components plus frame boxing I did because of the hemi I installed.
