Want something that NOBODY else has? 1936 Chrysler Airstream coupe mild kustom, very low production car as it was a mid-year attempt to salvage failing sales of the ’36 Airflow. I’ve never seen another ’36 Airstream in person, and coupes are exceptionally rare, and gorgeous. This car won BEST OF SHOW at Cheaterama in 2014 in the company of 100’s of killer traditional rods and kustoms.

Body: I bought the car out of San Diego CA in 2013 and it is DRY, super solid and pretty much rust free, especially underneath, and exceptionally clean and solid in the floors and trunk. I’m not sure the body has ever been off the frame. The roof is filled. Skirts are original to the car. The door windows have a neat and unique mechanism; when the wing window is tipped out the main window rolls down independently, but when the wing window is locked closed the entire assembly rolls down to reveal a full length door window. The doors and trunk open and shut perfectly.

Post-war mild custom, targeting early-mid 50’s. The car is powered by a ’52 Chrysler 251 C.I. flathead straight 6, which is mated to the car’s original 3-speed tranny topped with a period bakelite shift knob swirled in white/maroon (not shown in photos). An overdrive lever on the column connects to a separate mechanism on the transmission, effectively works like a 4th (highway) gear. The rear end was said to be 60’s mopar, I have not verified. 3” drop blocks in back…the stance is on point. Original independent front suspension was likely one of the first of its kind and provides a nice ride. New exhaust from the manifold back with a cherry bomb muffler that sounds great behind the straight 6. Wheels came from a ’40 Plymouth, recently blasted and painted gloss black. Front tires are brand new WWW bias stones, rears are older WW Cokers with good tread. Caps are currently ’52 Plymouth, and I have a collection of 50’s Mopar hubcaps for different looks. Also have a killer early 50’s Chrysler steering wheel yet to be installed. The interior is nice and likely redone in stockish fashion at time of previous restoration, and the trunk is nicely finished as well with a new battery hidden. Carpet is perfect. The gauges all light up and all do stuff, inaccurately, but they are huge, gold, and look amazing. Freshly wired 12V with a kit from Kwik Wire and there are plenty of free circuits under the dash for all accessory needs. It is wired to the front bumper for fog lights as well. The original spider web taillights (super desirable) have blue dots added.

This car is back on the market! I sold her to a friend in 2020, but he is ready for something that seats the whole family. Since he has owned it the original brakes have been rebuilt, tune up, some nice paint work to fix imperfections, and running boards recovered.
