Once again, some more of my old art work.
COLOR stuff is old T-shirt art for our clubs annual car show. Most of it is drawn 4-color so it could be digitized for silk screen or transfer.
BLACK & WHITE stuff for Junkyard News which I co-pulished in the '80s, Also some old car show flyer art.
CARTOONS from Street Rodder Magazine...was a Contributing Artist for them in the '70s. early '80s 100_5068.jpg 100_5032.jpg 100_5014.jpg

    Hello,

The photo of the 1958 Buick Roadmaster 4 door sedan (below) is right after my wife’s grandfather bought it new in 58. The sticker is still on the window. His wife (Grandma) is standing in the driveway of their old Santa Ana, CA home. It was a very small home with a single car garage. I am not sure how he got that huge Buick in that small garage. But, he did not need much room to slide out, since he was small and thin in stature.

His history is just as fascinating as the old cars that we have shown in different threads. He was a college professor with a couple of books under his belt. He taught at universities in Tennessee, Oklahoma City, Texas and then drove West to UCLA. He finally ended up at Santa Ana College in the last several years of his career.

He drove the big Buick to our own, small, intimate family-only wedding. But, at the time, he did not drive to West Los Angeles to the reception held at a fancy restaurant. He told us they were too old to make such as drive in traffic.

The next time we saw him was at his house blasting up the driveway into that small garage a couple of years later at Christmas. The big 1958 Buick was considered one of the most “garish” chrome laden automobiles to come out of Detroit. The front grille had so many individual chrome pieces that it would take a week to count them. The side panels and the huge chrome trim all over the big sedan made it, as some magazine writers to call it the “epitome of Detroit chrome” for any car. The Limited version had even more chrome pieces!!!

That big Buick sedan inspired me to draw what we thought our dad should have bought back in 1959. Then by the time we were into surfing, that would have been given to us for a cool surf wagon for the two brothers, when our dad was ready for another Buick. But, as usual, our dad stuck with his favorite Buick two door sedans instead of this cool Buick station wagon.

For our surfing adventures, we could have camped out for weeks in that huge station wagon. We would have made the 4 door into a cool looking two door, with a couple of reclining bucket seats. A true custom surf wagon for our adventures up and down the So Cal coastline. Sitting inside the huge station wagon, after a hard morning session on PCH, looking out at the waves rolling in at Santa Barbara’s Rincon Point would have been so warm and comfy, eating our chili and having our hot drinks. We could have a kitchen back there along with the accessory stove and refrigerator.
