Well I’ve got a bit of a story. I found some decent 21 stud aluminum heads online I think they could probably use a re surface but usable as is so I got a hold of the local fella in my small town he’s got a small machine shop and said he’ll see what we can do with them. Turns out he’s a hotrod guy too check out this neat neat head he has. Hotrodding introduces you to the neatest folks

In the heap of parts I bought I got a new intake manifold gasket and a couple 94 gaskets for the carbs. Does anyone know what type of head gasket would be best to use on this I’ve read a few different things but curious to what you guys do.( that still like these old turds) (flatheads that is )

Well there’s half the motor on my table haha glad to have it all here now. Gonna need a few odds and ends but over all I’m happy with my new aluminum treasures. Gonna start polishing here soon. If anyone wants to chime in with some beginners dos and donts I’m all ears.

Don't the head gaskets need to fit the quench and piston to head clearance ?

I had a small aircleaner like you showed above on my flathead, single carb, dang thing fely like I was always into the throttle. After doing something, don't recall what, I drove off w/o the aircleaner on it. It was like driving a new truck. I modded up a normal size air cleaner for it, ran so much better. I suspect the little one restricted flow, but look into it before spending money on them.

 

Will do I really liked just the edmunds “bird cage” it says you can fit a K&N filter jn there. I imagine there’s a few that will fit. Thanks for the heads up anyhow! Those things aren’t on the cheaper side by any means.

Been some time, but the stock-ish 221's and 239's I had, wasn't anything to think about quench, just valve to head contact.

 

This motor originally came out of a passenger car(which came with aluminum heads in 34’) and had its aluminum heads removed because of corrosion and iron ones fitted to it when it was over hauled by consolidated engine rebuilders back in the 50s or that’s what the tag says anyway. So I don’t think I should run into any trouble

Then set it as close as in limits. The better the pop the better the fun.

well popped the heads off the Flatty today gotta say I’m pretty happy took about 20 mins to do one head. And looked really clean inside I don’t imagine there’s many miles on it after the rebuild was done years ago. I may have lucked out.

well found an old school bus seat for the rear and if I put just a little tilt to it it’s real comfy. However it is a little tight to sit in the front( pic for reference)
