An unusual one came into the shop yesterday. I have never seen one with rear sun visors. I did some searching around on the Net and was only able to find one reference to the rear sun visors, on another Olds forum, where a guy was looking for a pair. I was not able to find any other images of them and they are not mentioned in the 1960 sales brochure I found on the Net. They look to be original. The headliner, front and rear sun visors are all identical material and are original. The rear glass is tinted and the upper portion is tinted darker, like a tinted windshield. I am curious if anyone else has ever seen this unusual option before? Bill
@justpassinthru .... Never saw these before! Thanks for posting pics of what has to be a very rare option/accessory. Ray
That is a good idea. Wonder if you could get that on the other GM bubbletops as well? Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I have been doing automotive upholstery for over 30 years and never seen that and was also in the Oldsmobile Club of America for a few years and never seen any at any of the shows I attended.
I bet someone just bought a set of front visors and mounted them above the back window. He most probably did it when the car was new, so he could order the parts to match his interior.
The rear sunvisors have been recovered. Originals, the chrome ends always cover the width of the binding. More than likely always have a little triangled tip on the outer side of the car as well. Not the long rectangled one as shown.
Those do not appear to be repurposed visors. As Ray pointed out, the hardware is certainly not from front visors. The headliner and visor material looks to be of the correct variety for GM in that period. I 've never seen them before either. Cool and unique feature for that car, however!
Never seen them before either. In the down position, I imagine they block your rear view mirror view. On that note, would be a good block for someone behind you that won't dim their high beams.
See if they have good backup light bezels. I would be interested in buying them from you, if they do. Thanks
Look like a pain in the ass to flip down, especially for short guys. Maybe a power option would help. Sent from my LG-TP450 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Never seen them on Pontiac bubble tops, but Olds may well have had them as an option. It's not a bad idea, it can get pretty hot in the back seat of these cars.
‘59 thru ‘61 and some ‘62 GM 2 door hardtops with sloping roof and huge back glass. Shared across the whole GM brand spectrum. Ray
Finally some other photos of other cars with the rear visors! So this answers if they are original or added. The first photo has visors that are identical except installed in a different direction. The rear visors have to be factory. Thanks for the responses guys Bill
My thoughts are that not all options are always listed in the sales brochure. here is a totally unrelated example. One of my racing buddy's dad has a '65 *427 Galaxie. The reason he has it is because he read about them before they were going to be available in hot rod magazine. The dealer had no information on them at all but Hot Rod mentioned in the article the proper option numbers. it gets better his car has the Daytona headlight covers. They are so rare that they don't even have a part number. *the car still exists complete with everything but the 427 medium rise.
