Very nice work! You've done that truck justice. Made it look nice, yet still very useable.

Drove the truck a bunch this week.... including in one nasty rainstorm. Found that my vent was leaking badly ..had to dismantle that and used sealant on the underside of the gasket...so hope I got that fixed.. I also had to move / adjust and tighten a few mounts to eliminate a few squeaks that developed. The new rear springs settled in someone's it it starting to ride smooth again... it was pretty jarring the first day or so of driving it.

The truck has been working well... crazy part is it is now getting pampered in garage.

My wife was saying that the truck turned out too nice to keep running in the salt....and I kinda agreed so I ended up picking up an off topic 500 dollar winter beater 75 international scout....

I miss driving the truck in the snow but feel better about it being treated preserved more than I have in the past. In the future I may repaint the rear fenders and touch up a few other things that I rushed when I was doing my rapid 10 week redo......

Figured I would post up an update...

Stupid me, the truck turned out a tad to nice to abuse like I used to.

I have been using it but have been wasting too much time trying to protect the bed when hauling crap.... I miss letting the scrap yard just use the magnet to pick the scrap out of the bed....

So last spring I decided to start throwing together the model a pickup project as my around town scrap hauler and make it my primary beater.... while working on it I also spruced up the outside of my shop.

Somehow by fall I managed to take it from a cut apart pile of model a parts to a running driving licensed truck.... it was a lot of welding but is turning out well.

And here is the before and some of the during shots of the 31 pickup.

    20200708_191423.jpg

So that was the initial pile of junk...

I was given a badly sagged frame 2 years ago (was given it for the 39 wide 5 parts that were swapped on it in 1958 to use on my 38 standard to update the brakes)

    Screenshot_20210713-172157_Facebook.jpg

Then i was informed of another pile of model a parts. Which I then went and hauled home as well.
    20200924_101149.jpg

That load was a good haul... I now have most of a roadster body to build in thr future!!.. In fact I had to break out my 1925 huckster to haul most of it since it is my only machine with an 8 foot long bed.

    20200925_133905.jpg

I sure surprised the guy showing up in an even older truck that get old parts.

I also picked up a 1934 bed cheap that i was going to cut down to look like a 31 wide we'd.

    20200929_152622.jpg

And the last main puzzle piece was an engine which was given to me from a friend. (It was laying outside in a barnyard for a long time) but wasn't too bad inside. 20200912_155148.jpg

So at that point last spring my total investment was at 1250 bucks all in.... for a bunch of junk..... next all the work began.......

With chains, jacks, and torch heat. I managed to get the frame a lot better, and I tore into the engine and did the valves and cleaned it all up and got it running with spare parts I had and put a new clutch in it.
    20200912_173143.jpg

I really lucked intona guy who wanted to trade my rougher 34 bed for a nice 31 wide bed so that really gave me a jump start.

I then began major rust repair..... pics In no particular order.. and I really didn't take many pics off all my repairs and fabrication.. was in a hurry to get it done in my free time.

  22. The old daily turned out nice, and I understand the mixed emotions about driving it in the salt now that the truck looks so nice.

You have probably said what color it is somewhere in the thread but I missed it, I love that color green. HRP

I lucked into a cheap NOS drivers side wide bed fender at a swap meet but had no passenger one so I cut down and made one from a rough coupe fender. 20210713_162040.jpg 20210713_162149.jpg 20210722_120222.jpg 20210722_133012.jpg 20210722_171331.jpg 20210722_171317.jpg 20210830_133709.jpg

So at that point I had all the metalwork just about done.. I wired and plumbed it up and drove it on its maiden voyage the mile over to my shop...

Brakes sucked.... steering was loose, and a bunch of junk shook loose from the block and gas tank...

    So NEXT on deck...

Our older daughter just turned 13 and wanted a 48-50 bonusbuilt ford in the worst way....

So this summer I will be helping her start on her first car.

    It is a very solid 48 f-3.

She wants to keep the faded paint for now and the flathead v8 and build a flatbed with a small enclosure for her musical gear so she can handel driving and hauling gear for her musical gigs on her own when she is older.

Here she is performing.......very proud of her making $$ playing 2+ hour gigs on her own at 13 years old!!!
