Technical When did boxing the frame become a thing?

    I know when guys started swapping in the mustang 2 and others that they would box the front rails.
    In the 80s

  3. It became a thing when Street rodding took off in the 70s and 80s and the magazines started pushing it. Yes it had been done earlier. It was mainstrem by the time the first home MIG welders blew into the hobby

    In the early years the frames flexed as part of the suspension. Later years when independent suspension were introduced the frames were boxed to allow the independent suspension to work properly.
