Got a set of 39’ pedals in now I need to cut the crossmember to fit!

I’ve been recording a lot of footage so I’ll have some viddys for y’all to check out soon.

Anyone put a set of 39 pedals into a Vern Tardel crossmember?

Got the cowl supports and sub rail extensions out from the spare cowl and now I need to freshen them up and put them on the new subrails when I get them. These pieces look rough but they are solid.

Got the body disassembled so I can patch the bottom up a lot easier. Has anyone chopped the top on a coupe when it was apart? ??

Messed around a little today, wire brushed the rust from where the body touches the wood, made a jig for the quarters so I know the boundaries after I cut everything out.

Travis, I watched both of these and loved them. Really hardcore of you to make it all the way out to Arizona for the body. I respect that commitment!

I also cracked up watching you maneuver that body on the chassis by yourself. Glad it worked out :)

Travis, watched your videos. Loved that you took your co-pilot along for company. Man, what a trip, as brsturges said that's real commitment. Great project. Will be following along.

worked on my subrails today. thanks @Dino 64 for the measurements!

first i went with the first two measurements he gave me and i thought i was getting on just fine until i decide to put the back half of the subrails in place..... i try to put the heavy rear crossmember on and its like 3" off.....
so after trimming the two middle crossmembers and welding the rear rails back on the rear heavy member fit!

heres what i did at first thinking i knew what i was doing.

    image0.jpeg

heres what i came up with after i used my head.

    image3.jpeg

    image5.jpeg

here is showed what i did under the subrails. just copied what Henry Ford did back in 1930

    image1.jpeg

    image2.jpeg

im going to try and keep the rear body mount and just raise up the section that i cut out to fit the notch. im going to just bolt the wood block in with the piece i cut out and just graft some sheet metal to fill the gap. should work fine i think.
let me know what you guys think.

  19. Just found your thread. That body looked pretty good! Looking forward to seeing your progress.
