Anyone know what kind of wheels Gene Winfield used on The Reactor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you enlarge the picture and rotate it 180° it appears to have the old Rocket Wheels logo on the center cap. Capital "R" inside an oval with the rocket launching line across the middle and the rocket at the edge of the oval. Whether that means the whole deal is Rocket, or just the fake knock-off center cap would be another question. Maybe try to get in touch with Winfield?? He's still sharp as a tack, he may well remember what they are.
You might be very right on the logo, does look like what would be in the center of the fake wire wheel caps on the early 1980's Riv's. My folks had an '83.
The center caps are very clearly 1965 Riviera spinners. The wheels were also a mid 60's thing and there was a discussion about them here on the HAMB years ago but I can't seem to find it, a few Larry Watson candy painted customs got the same wheels but without the big towers in the center for the spinner caps, which make the wheels look a lot different. There is absolutely nothing 1980's about any of that wheel setup.
Found it. Rice n' Beans is correct, Appliance. I think I have a set of those center cones NOS laying around if someone is cloning this car.
Yup Appliance. Officially Unichrome radial slot wheels if I recall correctly. The wheels had 3 bolt patterns ...5x5, 5x4 3/4, 5x4 1/2. (15 holes per wheel). The center plate was picked for your specific bolt pattern. I had a set on my 1960 Pontiac. I bought a set of 5x4 3/4 plates which is what I eventually sold them with.
