Tell us about the 56 Ford lurking in the background

 

The 56 vicky is our family car. It is an old hotrod that I plan to make nicer someday. It was nosed, decked and painted back in 68 when the drivetrain out of a wrecked 68 mustang was swapped in. (289, c4, 8 inch).

I rebuilt the mustang drivetrain, and fixed it up a bit and we have been driving it ever since...including a lot of long vacation trips.

I have been acquiring a bunch of nice parts to redo it once I get my 55 chevy done.

 

Very nice rebuild, I've always liked your truck (narrowing the front axle always make them look "right" to me) thanks for posting pics... I like you're going with the colors the kids like too.
I've ben kinda (not very hard) looking for an F-3 bed... have been thinking about swapping out my flatbed... keep the pics coming.

 

I love your truck as well!! F2/f3 beds are really hard to come by!!!

 

New headliner showed up... so I put the new one in my black f1... and used the one out of it in the 4x4 f-1 that I am working on

More work done in the heat...yuck..


Got the front uppers painted and loosely installed.. I got a bunch of the front fender and grill parts painted... and stripped and epoxy prined the grill (after finding some better grill teeth).....and lastly started slinging some mud on the rear fenders.

 

nice, I really like the colors. are the running boards and rear fenders jut primed? I was thinking they are going to be black...

 

Thanks... yeah the year fenders and running boards are primed. And now have some filler on them... hopefully this week I can paint them black, and be done!!!

I got the latch pannel in and the hood latching now...

 

Got more done... front end is back together and I got the grill painted.. once dry it goes back on.

 

I proballynwould have gotten more done on it if I wasn't distracted with some super cheap model a pickup stuff and a poor model a coupe that was chopped up with an axe....

Our girls want me to build the truck at some point since we already have 2 a coupes...

 

Build the kids a truck to putt around in and get them to help. They already look enthused and if it is theirs and they help so much the better. I cut up alot of old cars back in the 70's with an axe to load onto my pickup and haul for scrap. The frames had been previously been scrapped along with the heavy metal. All were laying on their roofs and were pretty well gone so it was appropriate. Also alot of old stoves and refrigerators were in the mix. All tin but I was laid off and family needed money so to help feed my kids that was the thing to do.

 

Grill back in.... my pile of parts to finish and install is getting smaller!!!

 

Armour all the tires and put it on a used truck lot and it would sell in a heartbeat.

 

Don't have any interest in selling.....I wouldn't have gone though all this hassle.....I am not a fan of bodywork!!!

Had to work on a guys truck yesterday to make some money... but today I spent the full day bodyworking the rear fenders and runningboards..
I think I am pretty close so I epoxy primed them to seal everything up well.. next will come some icing as needed and high build primer and more blocking....

 

Greetings fellow FORD truck nut!....I have been curious about the location of your shop since you acquired it beings I have passed through Somerset MANY times from the turnpike to Latrobe where I have a bunch of family....and. Think I recognize the background of your one outdoor photo!....your not far from the turnpike interchange are you?!....and NICE work on the truck!

 

I am right at the interchange... very convenient location and very close to my house!!! This garage is a dream come true for me!!!!!

I am the 4th owner of the building..

Buzz Myers built it shortly after the turnpike opened as a radiator shop, then Wayne bought it from him and continued radiator work, the. His son Randy got it. Randy retired about a decade ago and was leasing it...he wanted to sell it and the guy leasing didnt want to commit to buying it so luckily Randy sold it to me!!!!!

 

Today I sprayed the rear fenders gloss black and running boards semi gloss.

This evening my wife help me bolt up the rear fenders and running boards..... it isn't perfect by any means but for an amateur, painting outside, with industrial paint it turned out pretty decent...good enough for a daily driver.

 

Looks good! I would drive that proudly. And I am not even a Ford man.

I would say better than good for the elements you did the work in. It looks as if it could have just came off of the dealers showroom floor. A real truck, not todays dolled up restorations but a work vehicle meant to work.

Some daylight shots.... took the kids out for a ride in it... their whole lives this has been my truck and was getting pretty rusty and ratty the last few years. So they are super excited to see it nice. And they are happy with the colors.. I let them pick whatever colors they wanted.

 

Dear Lord. You've completely restored a truck in less time than it's taken myself and a friend to swap out a transmission and torque drive rear end for open drive on a '52 Chevy. I'm impressed, envious, and a tad ashamed. LOL

That oldest girl looks like she is about ready for some driving lessons.....in a green and black truck! LOL!!

 

Not quite yet she is just 11....the little one is 7.

I have let the 11 year old mess around with the clutch in the driveway before and she seems to be picking it up pretty well.

 

Turned out great!

 

A good age to start teaching the basics. I started my boys around 11 or 12 in the yard, by the time they got their permits at 15 both could drive a manual or automatic.
