I did my usual lately. Peck away at finishing the final filling and sanding to get my build ready for paint.

 

Went to an somewhat off topic high dollar car gathering in Tustin near the old helicopter air base. A few of HAMB friendly cars but I couldn’t resist taking a photo of this 1914 RR ..

 

Makes me feel like I'm cheating, when i use my lathe to do that kind of stuff. But I'll still keep using the lathe!

It is Sunday and a nice day weather wise at that. So I took the Roadster out to get some fresh air (me too). Drove through a couple of towns, got some gas and went home to do yard work. It felt good to drive the 32.
And I did not wear a mask!

I spent the day cleaning up the area around my parts car. I lifted the body off of it yesterday; well, I tried to lift the body off of it. As I lifted, the rockers collapsed- rusty as hell- so I used some 2x6's to spread the load. The rear came up faster than the front, then all of a sudden the floor broke in half just ahead of the B pillar. There was practically no metal left in the floors. I ended up cutting the A pillar just above the dash, cut the B pillars about 12 inches below the top and lifted off the roof and rear part of the body, then picked up the firewall/dash/ toe boards and set it off to the side.
So now I can get to work on the chassis- stripping, cleaning, de-funking. This might be the nastiest car I've ever touched, but the parts I need from it are all in good condition so I'm willing to go through the grunge.

 

Took Mr. T out this morning, and picked up a hitchhiker, the hardest tire I ever dismounted by hand. Patched tube and tire, put back together.

 

Got the brakes done on the Vette Friday and cleaned up Harley Saturday for a photo opp with her sister Hilda

 

A couple of weeks ago bought a burned up cowl section from a 62 Vette so I could strip it of all the metal dash brackets to replace the missing parts on my 59. Got everything pulled and media blasted and started piecing the 59 dash back together. Good day in my book.

Finished polishing an OT late-model, and then gave it to a good friend, down on her luck.

You cannot have a kid, and a job here, with no transportation.

 

Dropped a trailer axle on my nose. I was bolting the axle under my car trailer and had it all in place and must have bumped the jack handle and knocked it off the jack. trailer was held up by a chain hoist so it didn't move. Finally got the whole thing together after a 100 mile round trip road trip to get a wheel bearing for it.

My advice, hire a stunt double. We're all too old to be doing our own stunts.

 

Something is up with my M20 4-speed, pretty much decided to take the shift boot off to verify adjustment, the side cover may have to come off. Will put it up in the air later when the driveway is not a blast furnace.

 

My wife and I went to South Mountain Dragway in Boiling Springs, Pa. They had a GREAT nostalgia meet. There was about 10 front engine dragsters, 6 older funny cars, and about 10 flat-head powered roadsters. Plus Willys, and other early cars, both Fords and Chevrolets. There were also 3 champion Drag racers there, too. Bruce Larson, world champion funny car driver, Larry Lombardo, who used to drive Bill Jenkins pro-stocker, and one other guy, but I didn't get his name. Bruce Larson was driving his twin flat-head powered front engine dragster, The former Stan Shopple dragster. Bruce ran a match race against E.J. Kowalski, who was also driving a flat-head powered dragster.

 

I drove an old car to Tombstone. It's not very far away.

 

Out before the mid-day heat - also a good strategy to avoid tourists....

 

The stores open at 10, mostly. The garbage truck was making the rounds. I left before 8.

 

I haven’t been able to make time for my new project but Since I started following the new thread you guys have all inspired me get started. So today I cc’d an industrial 354 head to confirm that the compression ratio stinks. Thanks for the inspiration guys. Hopefully I can keep it going. And it’s 105 cc if anyone cares.

Got trans cooler lines on....well kinda..no idea why the trans shop wouldn’t check the fittings for the lines..started doing the yoga stretch to tighten up the hard one..and the damn fittings wiggling..so I called it a day..this thing keeps fighting me..so know I’m gonna pull the bolt of the bellhousing and pull the dipstick and the crossmember and hopefully be able do get that POS right...arghhggggggg

 

Ford is up on stands. Tomorrow early the shift boot comes off to check shifter alignment. Hoping for a loose shifter or busted bushing on one of the shift rods.

 

I've gotten about no shop time in this summer. Busy building...my new shop! But today's my birthday so I knocked off early and took the heap out for a spin around town. The flatty ran great, never got over 210 degrees. A good day.

Hauled the 31 Vic body and frame to it's new keepers. They have serious Hamb friendly plans and I am pretty sure the new owner is a Hamber. First photo with a scenic background (Mt Adams in Wa state In a seriously long time for that old girl. Photo taken a few miles south of Goldendale. A great day even if I didn't get to check out the OT project that I wanted to check on on the way home.

 

Put together a relay panel so I can use the old 3 wire signal switch on the '48 Lincoln column for the '47. It mounts tucked away down behind the kick panel.
Made a little bracket to mount an off topic gizmo in the header panel on Mike's '33.

Got trans cooler lines done, wiring in the engine compartment, neutral safety switch and backup light switch done, all grounds checked, got 3 gallons of 93 octane, and 2 gallons of antifreeze....firing it up and breaking it in on Friday...gonna be a long day...can’t wait to hear it and drive it..

 

Thought my M20 problem might be side cover related, did some diagnostics and figured all the detents were working. I had another shifter body, so in it went. The old one felt terrible. The new old one adjusted up well and statically a big improvement. Will take it for a ride tomorrow.

 

Spent all day trying to build a part I found on line for $10.99.
