I'm glad your memory is still working. I enjoy reading about Carl, Charley Smith, good 'ol Olin and all the gang back in the '50s and '60s.

  5. Wish Don Ross still posted here. He's still campaigning a dragster, & has a killer chopped 33 or 34 Ford coupe body. Great fabricator.

I may have posted this before, but I couldn't help but post it anyway. The story by Bill Collins about the trip to Mexico is definitely worthwhile reading.

Houston32.jpg Houston32b.jpg I'm searching my files to see if I have anymore Dallas photos to share. I just reread the thread and it got me all fired up. This '32 cabriolet ran at the original Caddo Mills drags in 1951. It was owned by Houston Eggleston (spelling?) who I was told was from Denton.

If you have been to Don Gartlit's Museum you have probably seen it. Somehow it ended up with Don and he liked it so it is in his museum.

Another roadster from Dallas past. This is a '27
Built in Dallas about 1951. It is somewhere overseas now. I think it is a bitchin roadster having ridden in it and seen it many times. Bill Collins owned it and drove it until his death. His relatives put it up for sale and eventually I believe it ended up in Germany.

I like it in all yellow paint and without the front fenders. It does show the aluminum work that was performed by an unknown person in Dallas in 1951. I got this photo off of the internet. It is presently in Europe somewhere.

Bill owned the now famous "Rollin Stone" '32 roadster for a period of time sometime during the 1960's. Carl bought it back from him and returned it at some point to the full fendered purple iteration to which it exists today. The correct dash treatment is shown. It was a custom made gauge cluster and not the more popular Stewart Warner panel of the 50's.

The chevy engine is a very clean installation. 1932 steering box.

Carl Stone's "Rollin Stone" street roadster. Photo courtesy of Don Breithaupt. Also here is a good video showing how nice the car wash.

Isn't this the car one of Boyd Codinigton's employees wanted to restore a few years ago but he wouldn't do it unless the frame was boxed?

Remember seeing this car when I was younger. School in the background is Weaver Elementary in Garland near where Buckingham Road makes the big turn and becomes Country Club Lane. I live a couple miles from there where Buckingham crosses Jupiter Road.
ETA: iirc the last time I saw it was at the old Charcos or Prince of Hamburgers on Garland Road near Peavy. (One of our getaway roads was the railroad bar ditch behind Hermosa St.)

Charlie Smith bought it from Smiley Sitton, then sold it to Jerry Hill who wanted to street rod it but was convinced to sell it to a guy who wanted to restore it.
Hot Rod Garage in Sand Springs Oklahoma rebuilt it but the only thing left of the original car is the sheet metal and maybe the frame.
There is an article on it American Rodder I think.

Well I stand corrected it seems it did get restored a second time.
