Yeah. The original repops from years ago just didn't have the machine quality they should have had to really match the originals and the steel quality. I know they were a bit noisy, but I don't think they were breaking unless you were putting a lot of power through them and were beating on them.

I believe they changed manufacturers and worked had to make a way better piece the second time around. Mac told me he would have no qualms running one of these.

He and I both agreed that original is best, but this should be just fine.

Clayton, have you tossed that broken cluster gear? I could use a broken one that I'm planning on modifying I can't see cutting up a good one. Can't wait to see this car come together.

    *New Update*

Not a whole lot has been going on around here on the TV8 build (So much going on), but I finished up the Zephyr box finally. Still have to finish up the front oil seal, but everything else is done.

    20190317_182501.jpg

I also got a start on two other boxes for buddies of mine that needs them..

We also found out recently that my wife and I are expecting a baby Girl towards the end of summer. As we are preparing and acquiring all the much needed Baby things....I did what any good, old car loving Father to be would do.

    I bought her first car...

Next Update should be bigger as we will be getting into some pattern making for the Federal-Mogul Heads.

    Stay Tuned!

Kids are life changing! Yours and theirs, but it's the best thing ever if you don't mind putting some things on hold. Like noboD said they aren't little for long but sometimes it will seem like forever.

So a lot has been going on here lately…just not so much on the hotrod front.

Little Charlotte came in August, so she has taken up a good portion of our time, but I have taken a bit of time to make a little progress on the V8.

The biggest thing are the patterns for the super rare Federal Mogul Heads. The patterns are finally done and printed, now all I need to do is finish the cleanup and detail work so we can get them cast.

    Compared to the originals:

The lettering was not quite right, so I did some hunting and found a pattern place in Ohio that still offers the old school vintage white metal pattern letters. They had the correct size, typeface and font as the original castings….so I will replace them on the new ones to make them as authentic as possible.

I also think I have found my radiator shell for this car. It a one-off, hand formed brass “Mystery Shell” that we think might be early Sprint car. Its beautifully made has just the right look to it.

I should be able to start laying chassis out in the next month or so (hopefully) so stay tuned.

    V8 Roadster update 7-10-20

So I know its been a while since my last update, but I have made some big advances.

The first is that the Federal-Mogul Patterns are DONE! The letters are finished, and prep-work is done. I sent them off to the foundry for a test casting, to see how they look in aluminum. We should see them soon.

    20200607_142815.jpg
    20200607_142839.jpg

The biggest thing is the Motor is DONE! I sent the long block components down to Tim McMaster (The Y-block Guy) and had him take care of the rotating assembly. I got it home last week and its every bit as excellent as I hoped. He did a fantastic job and even used correct Pre-War pennies for the oil plugs on the pan rail!

    20200703_222412.jpg
Naturally, I had to get in color and mock it up.

GMCBubba did a GORGEOUS job on the Diving bell Dizzy for this motor and Uncle Max did his impecible work on a pair of my Grandfather's Stromberg 97s.

Next is to get the 1939-’40 two-piece pan cleaned up, painted and installed and sort out the heads and studs.

    More to come!

    Hello Fellow HAMBers!

Its been a while since I posted on this thread....Life just gets in the way. Regardless, I've made some decent progress. There is a lot of material, so this may be a two-parter.

    Head Castings:

Since the last update, I finally received the first test castings back! Overall they look fantastic, but there are a few issues we need to fix. For example, the upper Head bolt reliefs at the top of the casting are 1/16th" off and one of the casting letters was knocked off and hastily repaired by the foundry.

    20201011_123042.jpg
    20201011_123046.jpg
We will need to sort all this out before we can try again and see if we are dead on.

Chassis Mockup and some Fab Work:

Once the Model T went to winter storage, its stall was freed up to finally mockup the chassis. I brought the frame inside and mocked with the engine in stand. (I also got the belts and front end of the motor finally sorted out)

    20201212_142723.jpg

    20201213_155426.jpg
I also took some time and dug out all the roadster sheet metal I have and with some C-Clamps, a few bolts and two 2x4s, I quickly mocked up the body....and added some representatives of the tires I'll be using (borrowed from my buddy's '39 Buick).

    20210111_233105.jpg
    20210109_222241.jpg

    Motor Mounts:

The next major project was to build and mockup the motor mounts. I started with some 0.180" thick 2"x3" Steel square tube and used the basic dimensions from the Bishop-Tardel book. After about 2 hours, I had these:

    20210124_130316.jpg
    20210124_130336.jpg
Once this was done, the engine was pulled from the stand and lowered into place. Once the location was determined, the motor mount biscuits were located and holes drilled.

    20210124_131921.jpg

    20210124_142753.jpg
Then I C-Clamped them in place nice and tight and lowered the engine in place (Blocking was used to support the motor after these photos were taken).

    20210126_230009.jpg

    20210127_000300.jpg
Tomorrow, I'll go into the Transmission crossmember fab work, further mockup and drop axles.

    Stay tuned for Part 2!!

Such an awesome Hotrod coming together...belated congrats on being a Daddy Mr. Model T...;)

The Heads are a feat in a dedication I am so honored to witness from my Hamb front row seat...I see this type of greatness here on many occasions all because of this magnetism to this vintage Hotrod movement before our time...good to see you @MrModelT

Oh, I just want to mention those WWs, I love the numerous looks available back in the day the patterns were very plentiful and amazing...
