I’m running a stock 31 model A front axle 51-7/8 width . It still has the stock front spring and I’ve just noticed it’s flat no room for travel so obviously I need a new one but when I go to speedway everything is for a 46” or 48” axle does it make a difference if the spring mounting holes line up? Also everything is a 1” drop that I don’t think l want . Any advice is helpful .

  2. Are the shackles touching the axle?

  4. If you want to replace the spring with a original style Speedway motors is not going to have what you want.

Snyder's antique auto carries the original type of spring. HRP

What should the measurement be from eye to eye of the spring?

[IMG]im still not convinced the spring is bad . After doing a search through several model A pics most or all sit the same as mine so maybe I’m over thinking this.

What shape do the shackles and bushing look like? They aren't stock Model A shackles or shocks. You can tell from the divot on the top of the axle that the spring was hitting at one time. How do you know that the spring is stock? Model A front springs have 10 leaves and clipped at the corners. I think I see a squared end on the first leaf. Perhaps they installed a different spring. I like the way the cotter pins were installed.

There are 9 leads in my spring, and all the corners of the springs are a square cut . I updated the shackles when I built the car but the spring was what it came with . It wasn’t broken so I reused it. As it rides now there is no contact between the spring and axle . I put tape on the axle and drove around to check . Just not much clearance.

If the spring doesn't have "clipped" corners, it's not Model A.

agree^^ 3rd leaf worn bad! square cut ends are usually 32-34, but the spring eyes on the main leaf are bigger, 13/16 vs 3/4 if i remember correct
