Technical air cleaner support on 63 Falcon 6 cylinder

I finally found an air cleaner for my 63 6 cylinder Falcon. One thing that I noticed is on the bottom piece there a threaded stud, which I assume is for some type of support. Does someone out there have a photo, or an explanation of where the support goes since I can place the bottom 360 degrees.

Couldn't you just set it on the carb and turn it around until it lines up with a bolt hole.

There is no additional support on my Wife's '62 Falcon, all stock.

 

The stud support may be for an oil bath setup. My 66 Bronco had it.

 

I forgot to type something in the above post. This bottom part will rotate around the carb 360 degrees so I'm not sure where it is suppose to stop. The top that goes over this has a stamp that says "front" so that part is easy. As you can tell that stud is factory.

That is what my Wife's looks like only it is red and does not have the stud or any location for one.

None of my Falcons have ever had that, or evidence of it, and I have had them on both coasts.

No US Falcon had an oil-bath air cleaner. They were all paper.

 

That's true. But if it's a 170 block it would at least have a provision for an oil bath. At any rate thats not it. It looks like it could bolt up to the rocker cover with a longer stud for support?

No oil bath provision. Might have been a different region thing.

 

Yes there is. Left side of the block inbehind where the coil mounts there is a boss with 3/8" threaded hole where a stud would mount for a support bracket for a oil bath air cleaner. I'm sure all 170's would have it, but not many used it, except for Bronco's.

 

I just checked my 144, 170, and my 200.

None of them has an extra boss, threaded, or otherwise. There are two bosses for the coil, and one for the z-bar.

The only other bosses are for the oil pressure switch, and the motor mounts, and the fuel pump.

No extra bosses.

144 not shown. It is crammed between two other large objets, but I can see that it is the same as the 170.

 

some of the mid 60s engine had a stud on the valve cover, that holds a clamp for a heater hose...it could probably reach that stud? Haven't seen any pics of one with a brace installed though.

 

Later model heads have an EGR valve boss on the intake log.

That bracket could reach one of those bolts.

 

I think you'll find that by the time they had EGR, they also had a heat stove and a different air cleaner shape.
