lets see some non-stock deck lid latches, or any other way you are holding down the trunk lid on your hot rod... bouncin around they are loud and no fun hahahha i need to do something and have been kickin around ideas, i just know i wanna stay away from stock ... what have you done? pics if possible!
I used a small latch from Micheal's cable operated. Could e-mail pic. have not figured out the post deal ??
Though not very secure, a strong magnet. My trunk latch is off a small Jap car. A walk thru a U-Pick junk yard will reveal a wide selection of usable latches.
yeah i know i could use just about anything, just wantin to hear some ideas and see some pics maybe... something to spark the imagination
Dzus fastener fwiw. I open mine with a dime. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Take a look at SUVs and Soccer Mom vans in the junkyard. Many of them have nice Bear Claw type latches and would be easily adapted. Plus, most of them have an electric solenoid attached. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Small aftermarket Bear Claw on my 31 A roadster. Note that it's shimmed out 1/8" on the inside. The pics show the shim on the outside and also with the supplied latch pin that wasn't used. I used a bent headless 3/8" stainless bolt instead. Cable operated, an Explorer latch - if I remember right works well. The 31s latch is cable operated with a diesel accessory pull cable. Fairly heavy duty it is. The threaded adapter is home-made. This last pic shows the final install. Fairly clean. The thinking was setting up a latch that didn't get hung up on stuff. Although, the latch pin on the trunk lid is a bit of a head-banger till you get used to it....
Bear claw mini latch actuated by an early 50s XK120 trunk handle. Factory still sells em brand new with keys, real graceful looking.
I was kicking around using a VW deck lid latch, you can still buy them new and they have a lock......just an idea.
i would like to see better pics of the steamer trunk latch, or someone that is using hood hold downs...
I got a good solution for my coupe.. it rules but I need to shoot some pics,,, I'll get onit and post it,,
I was considering using the hood latches off a newer Jeep wrangler - very easy install, still sold new, and a ton of aftermarket versions.
Watson's Street works sells this set up... pretty simple & not real $pendy... I like it because it can be used with a cable or a solenoid.
No-see-am; Choke cable/gas cable< now lawnmower parts. Run to under seat or a like, just pulls a pin,so trunk can be lifted/opened. Pretty old post, but others look for ideas too.
I am using a Springloaded Tailgate latch from a pickup in my 33 , operates with linkage to a Harley D. Clutch handle.
