"Boudakian Brothers '37 Ford Coupe, Norm Grudem photo. They later raced a series of altereds and roadsters." @296ardun

    Hey Dave,

Nice old photo of the Boudakian Brothers 37 Ford Coupe. We did see one of their later Fiat Altered at Bakersfield in 1960. It was fast!

Sorry for the blur at the starting line shot. All morning I had my spot on the chain link fence picked out, filmed many racers and timed runs. Then at the start of eliminations, this brash older woman just prys apart the guy next to me and squeezes in. her beehive hairdo then got in the way in many of the following films. She really did not have to lean way out to see what was happening. The chain link fence was straight and we all got to see the racers/race cars clearly. But, some people are just a little off and very pushy. Plus, I would rather smell nitro fuel or gas than her stinky perfume and hair spray.

1960 Bakersfield Smokers March Meet Boudakian Brothers Fiat Altered Coupe

I just happened to be on the fence for the other class winners: Boudakian Brothers Fiat Altered, Albertson Olds Competition Coupe, Tommy Ivo A/Gas Dragster, Don Prudhomme B/Gas Dragster Classes.

It was a Bakersfield Smokers March Meet to remember forever.

    From above -
Interesting photo. Looking at the ground...it "appears" to be a new surface. I believe that Irwindale was repaved a time or two in its years open, but not east of the starting line.
This area would normally be solid black rubber, with little to no areas of clean asphalt.
This could be a very early picture of the burn-out area, of an early Irwindale Raceway. Also note the tower is ...clean..!

  9. The late Dave Sanderson with a great Pontiac powered car that did well against the blown cars at Sanford, Maine long ago facing off against the Sidebotham Richardson Creehan Olds. Sanderson was from Greenland, NH and the SRC Olds was from my hometown Reading, Mass. 38AE27ED-53CD-4121-BCDB-4DC22531AC33.jpeg B85BB2B1-2164-4129-BD76-C5735E098692.jpeg 0E82E5F9-688C-48E6-AD7D-D78D6D8C0DB6.jpeg EC8D298F-1FEA-40B2-8A58-EAEACF0CBC96.jpeg

John, the H.A.M.B. drags shot is a little too new for this page and although the Camaro wheelstand shot is close to the correct period the H.A.M.B. cut off date for vehicles is pre Camaro.

I think it would be a very early photo, Irwindale opened in 1965, zoomie headers were discovered in late '64 but the driver is smoked in so the photo was pre slipper clutch.

Could this be an early Eddie Hill car ? Pontiac engine, top rail attached to the heads, some clean engineering, perhaps, a hasty built body of corrugated metal. And dig the pipes on the coupe in the background, gotta be a Texan ! Pontiac Dragster.jpeg

My thoughts too Marty and check out the steering shaft between the carburetors.

Marty, I don't remember...tried to look it up but of all my Rodder's Journals, #64 with an article on Tom, is missing...only one that is missing...damn.

  19. As far as I know, that twin was the only swing and miss for Art Chrisman and Frank Cannon. Apparently they didn't learn from Neil Leffler and Bill Coburn's Iron Mistress failure.

Chris Karamesines and Don Maynard tried a twin too. Don, RIP, drove the car in three outings and then it was parked.

  21. At least the Greek could put on a smoke show with his failed twin. ^^

  25. I have never seen photos of Garlits' Jocko 'Liner running. Too bad Don didn't know then what he later learned about slowing the steering down. He might not have blamed Jocko for the car's failure.
