Not exactly a hot rod or customs shop....but still a vintage photo of a real shop truck.

They lived in CA. As famous as they are, you'd probably already know if they were related to you.

Pic is 1952, owner Alexis duPont and it was used as the support vehicle for his Cooper Formula 3 racing. It looks about the same today.

1959 Riverside Raceway Valley Home Service vs Tommy Ivo Twin

    Hello,

Riverside Raceway was the location for one of the biggest drag races on the West Coast. It was a showdown between the best in the East vs the best of the West. The biggest names in drag racing were there to support their own areas. My brother and I had planned on this long road trip for weeks, in anticipation of being able to see the best drag racers from everywhere race in the nice So Cal weather. We got up very early and arrived in time for the bright inland sunshine over the dragstrip.

One of the races showed the supercharged SBC of Valley Home Service versus the newest addition to the Tommy Ivo arsenal, the big, twin injected, Buick FED. The popular red cladding was missing for this race.

At the time, we all knew about the Tommy Ivo race cars from the single injected Buick, to the 671 Buick powered version because of seeing them almost weekly at Lions Dragstrip. But, not many had seen the twin injected Buick version, especially in all black. This drag race event turned out to be some of the best early racing seen in a long time. I just saw Porter mufflers on the window of the Custom Automotive speed shop.. Pretty cool you can still buy them and there like they were back then..

    upload_2020-8-4_4-2-10.png Daddy's Auto Body

    Hello,

In the early days of So Cal drag racing, San Fernando Valley was considered one of the hot beds of hot rods/drag racing. There were plenty of builders and manufacturers for speed shops to buy and sell their hot rod parts. Whether it was for just hot rod cruises or for drag racing, the speed shops turned out some pretty spectacular cars and trucks.

The early Tommy Ivo Buick motors were well respected and being hot rodders, the motor got installed in different cars, just to see how it would perform.

    Jnaki

A multiple carburetor version of the Buick motor was installed in the Daddy’s Auto Body streamlined FED. To keep it distinct, new header pipes were made. When the years followed, another Buick motor was used and the definite Tommy Ivo up swept headers came into play.
