I worked G and H models. The newest we had was a 1960 model. Great aircraft. Still wondering why Boeing doesn't start making them again with the high bypass fans. The R model, was experimental and was a success, but they shelved the project.

Looks like it keeps coming up. Just like the Air Force to pay for multiple consultant contracts that all end up with the same conclusion. https://www.defensenews.com/air/2017/12/22/air-force-solidifies-options-for-b-52-engine-replacement/

  2. 118930092_138214334340.jpg My grandmother's nephew Captain Earl Fryer's P-51D Mustang . He was killed in action , shot down over Holland in 1944 . He named this plane Spunktown that was the nickname of the village he came from . He was a farm boy who didn't get past the 8th. grade but he went back and finished school so he could learn to fly .

  3. The Canadian mark 6 Sabres were still flying in Chatham NB until 1968. Every pilot transitioning to the CF-104, that didn't have a tour on the Sabre, got to do a fifty hour course on the Sabre to learn to fly a swept wing fighter and practice low level navigation.
I really regretted that I was transferred to the CF-104, a year after the Sabres were retired in late 1968, and I missed the opportunity to fly that legendary aircraft.

I was born at Castle AFB in Atwater California in 53. We lived 3/4 of a mile off of the glide path to the main runway. These planes and KC-135's and a myriad of other planes were in my skies 24/7 as a kid growing up. I fully agree, they should be still building them. Its still one hell of a design!

Working at a company named Aerospace in Goleta, CA, modifying Boeing 337 Stratocruisers into the Pregnant Guppy and Super Guppy back in 70 during the fire season. The fire bombers working the Santa Ynez mountains out of Goleta were just next door to us. One day, this F7F came in for a retardant re-fill and I fell in love. Even with the god awful belly tank they had cobbled on to this plane, it was awesome and absolutely beautiful. Only one I've ever seen in flight.

Best kind of airplane noise! I used to live in Ypsilanti, MI, and the Yankee Air Force's B-17 would sometimes fly low over my apartment on its way back to Willow Run.

Beautiful planes. When I was a kid I loved to crash rc airplanes! Lol. I had a stagger wing it took me months to build. Flew it twice and second flight it crashed in the lake, gone forever. DAMNIT!

This was always my favorite vintage plane. The gee bee r2.

This is a small Klein canvas tool bag, that I hand painted a Staggerwing onto in 1995 for a friend, its still holding up pretty well.

I am just glad that there is a thread here on the H.A.M.B. that appreciates the cool elements of aviation and some great people that can appreciate captured moments of time. Thank you for the compliment!
