The one for sale in the UK is sat in my garage next to our bantam altered. The artist impression is how it should look when finished. Ford 302w with toploader four speed, austin westminster narrowed rear axle, radiused rear arches and straight tube front with ford 100e front arches. My other halfs car hence the name!

    • I finally finished an OT built and we just started on my wifes 58 convertible last weekend. I have some cool body ideas. Going to be powered by a 01 Mazda Miata drivetrain.

A quick google for metropolitan hot rods or metropolitan customs will get you a zillion ideas. My folks had one when I was in high school, a dead slow stocker in two-tone yellow that my dad brought back from his tour in Gitmo in the 60s. Gary

I had one given to me last year. It is supposed to be a 56 but I am not sure. It needs floors but everything else is there and the buddy who gave it to me has been into these all his life and has every part you can imagine plus more. It even came with it's title so I couldn't refuse! It is slated for the gasser look like the red one posted previously. Already have the small block ford and C4 and 9 inch for it. Now just need a straight axle for it and 50 feet of 2 x 3 tubing!

I owned a rough one for about 45 minutes.

Went to a Wi. auction on very cold blistery winter day. Things were selling cheap and fast. They advertised the cars with an auction time of 1:00 but they sold everything but the cars by noon already and they just went ahead instead of waiting til 1. By the time people started showing up to bid on the cars they were already all sold.

Well when they got to the Metro, they kept dropping the price and I finally bid and was expecting others to jump in at that price but no one did and I brought it for that 1 bid. The wife was pissed, cold as heck day and now we had to load a car besides. The couple we met there just shook their heads. Wife said I needed another project car like I needed a hole in my head. Did I say she wasn't impressed.

We went inside to warm up for a bit and then I went outside to take another look at it and this guy came over to me and said I heard you brought the metro. He was one of them that came late to buy just that car. we got talking and I told him to make me a decent offer and I would consider selling it to him. He thought about it and threw out a number. I didn't even argue, didn't even turn down the first offer like I normally would have. Cold day and he offered me a price that was 10 times what I paid for it. I would have probably sold it for half his offer.

he paid me and I went inside and told them I sold the car and they couldn't believe it. Wife was happy then, especially seeing I took our group to lunch on me, I mean the Metro buyer.

I like auctions where you sell the cars without even moving them.

I thought my Met design would fit this thread, but was removed as "the wheels were too big". I thought lowered with radiused fenders with 14" Americans fit what others had posted so far here.

None the less here is a version in stock form.

There are two around my area with BBC power in them! One with std. wheelbase, and one with the front fenders stretched. Saw the short one make a pass at the Billetproof drags here, and it looked like a handful!

Not a Metro, in case anyone was hoping to find one with these lines.

  29. Sort of agree. I restored a '62 for my girls to drive to high school. They drove it 3 or so years but it was constant maintenance. It cracked 3 pistons over time, shifter mechanism constantly hung up until I got it rebuilt enuf to shift ok. Tee hose rots quickly so I made a copper one with plumbing fittings. And Lucas electrical systems are notorious for failing constantly. Cowl scoops often have a crease across them from hoods flying up at speed from a broken hood latch. There are still a lot of them around because they rarely run!! Owning one is not for the weak of heart.
