Two of them I never saw run. The other ran good enough in a B main sprint car to pay my way through college. As with any so called long duration cam, you have to keep the rpm up.

Well it has been a while but not a lot of change. Dyed and Blued carbs. Chromate worked good (maybe to good for some) and I got some gold back in the carbs. Maybe over gold for some but I am sure it will fade. Took the week off for British Treason Day. Spent most of the day ruining tubing. Bent my oil filter lines, my intake cooling lines, and oil to the head. It has been 20 years since I bent steam tracing and it shows. Clearances the headers a bit more and decided to paint them black instead of the current "aluminum" that looks like primer gray. I also ground off the small boss on the block that was touching the header and touched it up with the wrong orange but it is behind the headers so hopefully mostly hidden. The 4th when we declared our independence. It was a treasonous act.

A little over simplification of the founding of the Country. You probably think the cause of the War Between the States was slavery.

I wasn't trying to make light of anything. Treason meant death if our founding fathers didn't win. They were putting their lives on declaring the independence of our country. Many of them had good lives and could have kept on living them, but felt we should be free from on oppressive ruler.

I also know there was more to the civil war than slavery. Lincoln may not have been the great president he is made out to be.

Sorry if I upset anyone, it wasn't my intention.

Just to be clear, I love my country and currently fear for it, my families safety, and our Freedom.

I think we are all pretty touchy right now. Luckily we have our cars, shops, and interested others to give us a more fun distraction while we work through all this crap. :) Thanks for sharing your build on this old Jimmy. It's looking great!

Though I am from the "uneducated rural areas" I practice my freedoms more than most urban people do and I know the cost of freedom.

Now back I will get back to having fun with vintage engines

Those look great. I used Eastwood carburetor paint on the last ones I did and they came out OK, but I'm gettin' myself one of those Bluing Kits.

well I was going to plumb in a sediment bowl but I can only find ones with a top inlet and side outlet not both side. No my pump didn't have one because my pump was an aftermarket with no kit available. Guess I will use a modern steel inline.

16" fan is super close to the damper.

    Headers repainted black

Built a engine lift plate to use the valve cover studs. God looks out for children and I guess engineers, mismeasure the center by an inch forward but adding a bell housing and flywheel becomes close to level

don't tell anyone my rear cam plug is metric!

    8 flywheel bolts 4 3/8 4 7/16

Restrictor for my oil to the rocker shaft 7/64 like stock after trial and error. 55 psi cold with 1100 crank rpm from the drill (550 drill) Brad Penn 10-w30 oil. Man even a pinched tube floods the head to the point of over running the gasket with no valve cover. Hope to run it on the run stand tomorrow. Coil mount was a fail, hits the starter, I will remake it.

Maybe a little low at idle but not bad. 10 lbs per thousand rpm is fine for these engines. Old lubes the bearings not pressure. I kinda' freaked out at 15 lbs at 1,200 rpm lugging up the hill to my house 40 years ago. It still runs 35 at 3,000 and is fine. Wound it to 5,000 on the way to a show Saturday.

I will look it over when we fix the rear seal but my machinest isn't worried. That was with Brad Penn 10-30 oil. Most of my big blocks idle at 10 or less but have good pressure at rpm. I am more or less happy. Afraid the carbsay be a pain yet

I am not an expert on these, but it looks fine to me. Good job!

Looks like the condenser works. That makes me feel good.

Run looked good. I've never had one that low if you added the 2 washers in the return spring. If you use a little cardboard you can idle them a few minutes with no rocker cover and see the flow from the rocker shaft overflow. I would do it warmed up.

Side clearance on the rods can be a place for loosing pressure. I run a lot on mine to get oil thrown on the cam. At 6000 rpm I have 50 psi and never ever hurt a rod or main bearing. Once it's in you truck and at driving/cruise at 25-30psi it will just fine from my experience.

These engines never had anything in them but single weight oil, usually ND 40, and a 3200 rpm governor. I believe my sons 302 after break in went to Chevron Delo 15-40. I use Lucas Hot Rod 10-30 in my Y-Block. The oils are so good today and with the filter you added will be so much better than the 50's. JD

has 2 washers and the Oil out of the rocker tube is quite a bit, even switched to a pinched tube.

I’ve never pinched one of the tubes but as long as there’s oil everywhere is what’s important. My roller rocker system has no over flow and I’ve needed to add restrictions in the line as there is a lot of oil up there. It sounded great and the carbs look fantastic.

Mine has lots of flow to the rocker shaft and was over flowing the valve cover gasket with a drill priming the pump. I made a restrictor the same size as the factory fitting but may need to go smaller.
