No Carson top... but I do have something cooking. Something to pay homage to one of my favorite customs ever built.

Thank you. The one mod that I thought about forever... I'd never seen it done and I knew it had to look cool with the pieces I already had!

You have thrown everything at this build but the kitchen sink and that would look goofy for a top!
    Maybe a "bubble"?
That pic of you and your build should be made into poster, just amazing!

Is it too early to be thinking about what color this is going to be painted?

Has anyone pancaked a hood before? I'm thinking about doing it to the car. Any advice or photos would be greatly appreciated!

pancake as in sectioned, or pancaked as in reshaped the opening?

I mostly see pancaked hoods on early 50’s custom trucks where there is plenty of nose to pancake down.

from memory and from how you do things I’ll just say it works about how you think it does.

    lol

I hesitate to say this, because you have gone above and beyond all expectations and continue to impress with not only your skills but also your eye for design. However, pancaking was done in a lot of cases for 2 reasons, to check another box on the show entry so it had yet another modification and to close in the opening to highlight the engine when the hood was open. It also made it much harder to service the engine.
The first is something that many here can point to in hindsight as being something that caused the decline of customs on the show circuit because "more is better" caused some pretty bad choices.
The second is something that really only relates if you are displaying the car with the hood open all the time.
So, first, define the opening by making the turn-downs or drip troughs or whatever you want to call them. Then make the underhood framework/support structure. Fit and hinge until all fits and works. Then extend body to trough and skin the hood frame.

can't wait to see more of your build. I'm doing a 55 Dodge but trying to keep it drivable along the way. I have lots of ideas in my head. just need to put them to metal!
