Try it--not that hard to remove and try then put back if not what you like. Probably has 11 or 13 leaves? go down to 9 and see.
get roughly 1/2" lower with each (every other and not the very top one) leaf removed - shorter gas shocks will help the ride
If you reverse arch the main leaf, and make some shackles 1" over stock length, it will put you in the ballpark. When we were kids everybody I knew had longer shackles. They were often a graded project in High School metal shop. They work best on 42-48 Fords because they have a factory panhard rod.
I got 2" shackles from Vern Tardels. They work really well. I have a 41 and it didn't come with a panhard bar. I got one from Speedway Motors. I haven't noticed any big difference in the handling.
I don't know if I'd want to pull the second spring out of the pack which you'd have to do if you reversed the eyes on the main. It stiffens up the main spring and to me, seems kind of necessary on a full fendered 46. My 46 Merc weighs 3545 pounds. Your stock shackles are already longer than those little ones hanging on all these much lighter 20's and 30's coupes and roadsters and yours should be hanging pretty much straight up and down. You've got a panhard bar in there, too. Maybe pull the third, fifth and seventh to see where you'd wind up, might work better.
