Someone needs to just merge this thread with the Longroof thread.

IMG_2312.JPG I had a 1958 Villager wagon but always kept my eye open for a Roundup. Never ever found as the made less than a 1000. These are one of my favorites..

Those headlights aren't standard; wonder what they are? Really sets off the front end.
Here's a Roundup that was for sale for less than $20k. Gone now.

Floyd and Becky Dutton. I bet that car has close to 100K miles on it. He drives the piss out of it.

The headlights are '59 Mercury. And as @Roothawg said, that car is all over the place. The Duttons DRIVE it!

Good timing on this post, just got my wagon up and running. Ain't so custom, but necessary ever since I spun all the oil pressure out of my '39 Tudor's flathead at the last trip to the drag strip. Should be a nice tow-car... 83140999_10158401178799437_5649015993157473714_n.jpg

PS: My first post here in a long time, howdy ya'll!

Hahaahhahahahaha, Well I do agree. But I have seen some pretty nifty more door ones. Besides with runts runnin' around those extra portals are nice. Not as cool as two nice but nevertheless still pretty damn fun.

But to answer the question - 1928 Jay when Ford introduced it's Wooden Station Wagon. that's when four doors and a long roof became cool to own. At least for me.......

Do me a favor and dont tell my wife her 4 door wagon is a parts car. She loves it and I can't afford a Nomad.. Lowered, Cragars, hopped up 327 and I've started working on a custom diamond pleat interior for it. Screenshot_20200622-232838_Instagram.jpeg

I was under the impression that wagons were popular with Bracket Racers at one time, due to their low purchase price compared to some sportier models, wagons had heavier duty underpinnings than a standard sedan and had good weight transfer for traction.

We always load up our ranch wag to the max, awesome with family life these days. But being a two door, does make access to the back tricky at time. Guess that’s the price you pay for the two door life. Those mercury four door hardtops do give me a wee tingle in the right spot too though.

  22. They become interesting and eventually cool when the “cool” cars are unavailable. Then, much as the early hot rodders we’re building jalopys, unloved and scorned, a new group of folks having fun emerges.

I think some of it was when the fuddy-duddy term "station wagon" was replaced by the cool term "longroof'".

The first car I can remember was a 1953 Ford station wagon. Four door, can’t remember if it was a ranch wagon or what it was for sure. My folks bought it new, in Muskogee, Okla. We traveled back to Oklahoma from California in Oct of 1957 in it and several other vehicles. Always had a soft spot for wagons, I guess that’s why I drive this!
