  6. Sure, the owner was a good friend of mine who passed away in 2001, prior to that we spent a long Saturday evening in his shop with several friends and a few gallons of airplane stripper getting about five layers ( yes, five layers) of paint off it. The plan at the time was to make a custom out of it but it never happened. Since then it’s been sitting in the shop collecting dust. I’m not sure but I think it’s still for sale. I’d have to ask the owners wife.

And my breakdown bike. You do have backups to your backup transportation, don't you?

    No, it's not a girl's bike- it's a folding bike. Motobecane. French, I think.

Man I swear I just saw one of these driving somewhere around town the other day. Same color too as I assume it was meant to be factory hue. I thought it was a convertible though. Not sure I was mostly fixated on the voluptuous rear.

    Hey LBCD,

Great photos of the corner of South and Bellflower Streets. (and the Merc) We used to play sandlot football at Mayfair Park, just around the corner and the area sure has changed since the early 1960s. That area of big trees was a lot smaller (unfamiliar) as that whole area had tons of planted trees back in the early days. 57 years makes those trees grow very tall and full. That Tahitian Red paint, if that is the color, just stands out as if it just rolled out of the painter's booth in 1963.

Here is a link to a Craftsman House with a custom Studebaker Truck parked in the driveway. The caption was in Lakewood, Ca. Perhaps you guys know of it from the local gatherings.

Ever since I posted the original photo and story, the lower clearer photo was found.

    Thanks,
    Stay safe and healthy...

  17. ** Zoom in to check out the interesting windshield on the mellow yellow one. I like the blade front bumper.

These were in a local estate sale ad. I didn't make it there to find out the years, makes, models, and prices. What years, makes and models? I doubt my Economic Impact Payment check would buy both.

Thanks. I knew they were small but not the tiny wheels. In another scene he (Ray Milland) was changing a flat, looked like a golf car wheel. I guess all the ones I'm used to seeing are sitting on dragster chassis.

  27. Cool picture. I like old cars that look like they were setting somewhere for years.

Is that your shop, what year is the building, and do you own it?

The building dates to 1898 it was built to be a grocery store and was until 1959 or so. My dad bought the corner in 1961 knocked out the back wall and put in an overhead door and its been Speedometer Service for the last 59 years. 20120822_162906.jpg DSC00485.JPG
