So true! But you can't eat the front porch, and boards n nails cost money. Never dirt poor like these folks, but as a teenager I remember building cow shed from used lumber from a house demolition site and straightening the nails to build with. Of course those were "real" nails, not the thin nails you buy now. Happy Fathers Day to all the HAMBers 1 more car I promise, Rex Winter Dry n windy Lubbock TX
If you watch the original 1960s movie 'The Italian Job' part of the chase scene takes place on the Fiat test track.
When you have to spend all of your time grow'n and kill'n there's no time for straightening bent nails and scrounging up lumber for fix'n. We no longer have to grow and kill to survive so you have more time for fix'n, rod'n, and race'n Funny how that worked out.
I was thinking all those loose/split boards might turn an ankle, them how would they ‘grow & hunt’? Either re-arrange into something smaller/sturdier, or throw it all to the side. But to walk over what’s basically a debris pile of a porch seems like its asking for injuries. Just my two cents- what do I know.
Boys were tougher back then. With walking through creeks and wet rocks, steep slopes and what not they learned how to do it.
