So I decided to go with F-1 bendix style brakes for the front of my 35 Ford. I purchased Curt Bakers book to guide me. I found an old 1950ish F-1 truck and removed everything I needed. I figured I’d go with new drums so I ordered a set of NAPA 4401070 drums ( according to the book) The installation was going real smooth, with new pads, bearings and races etc. until I opened the box of drums and tried to mount one onto the hub and realized it doesn’t fit. It’s not deep enough to cover the brake shoes. Anybody know what kind of drums I need? I’ve attached photo of old drum and new drum. Thanks for any advice Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Can the old F1 drums be reconditioned/turned? Use them. The new drum above looks like ‘53-‘56. BWTFDIK
440-1070 Fits 53/63 F100 front it doesn't fit F-1 at all. I'm not finding front drums for an F-1 from Rock Auto, Napa or O'Reilly's LMC shows different drums for 48/52 F-1 and 53/56 F100 https://www.lmctruck.com/1948-56-fords/fa-1948-56-front-and-rear-drum-brake-components
Well I just got back from my local NAPA store and found that the 440-1070 drums only fit 53-56 f100, he found the correct drums for 48-52 to be 440-1073. Hopefully this helps anybody who read Curt Baker’s “The Traditional Brake Handbook” and had the same problem. Thanks for help fellas! Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.

Your finding out why most go with the F100 (53-56) setup. Brakes the same (and backing plates) but the hubs are different. If you can't find a drum to fit you can always find some F100 hubs or good used F1 drums.
