This thread is the best ever.
Can't help wondering what happened to all those
neat hot rods when kids were really "into" cars
and didn't mind getting their hands dirty.

    Ad in unidentified 1933 magazine.

I know it's stock but colored sidewalls look interesting. This appears to be an ad from a auto trade magazine so it's possible that Goodrich was just gauging interest. Does anyone know if these ever went into production?

Goodrich has used the Silvertown brand name for a very long time. Apart from the ad for colored sidewalls that I posted, I can't find any evidence of these online. I think that it was just somebody's idea to improve sales of a premium tire during the depths of the Great Depression. Apparently the tires were to be custom ordered -- but when someone needs tires they usually can't/won't wait for them to be ordered/manufactured/shipped. Another problem would have been the shade of the sidewall -- what if they arrive and it doesn't match the paint? The color would probably age over time -- one wouldn't want red sidewalls that faded to pink.

Does anyone know if these or other colored sidewalls were ever in production?
