June 17th 2020 Back to the windshield hinge cover. Once the new wiper motor was installed and it was clear the switch would be on the dash, I wanted both wiper access covers to look the same so another flat cover was ordered.

When it arrived, both covers were tidied up with a belt sander, taped on to the hinge cover and mounting holes drilled. Mounting holes were also drilled for the rear view mirror and stainless steel screws and hex nuts found in inventory to mount it.

The hinge cover and trim parts were roughed up with a scotchbrite pad, PRE Paint prepped and sprayed with a coat of Eastwood's Silver CAD detail paint. Beer of the day was Payette Brewing Company's Pistolero Porter.

 

Put in my new grill.

 

Glued some more of vintage aircraft insulation in place; scored some black carpet from Jenny to hide it; but ran out of time to cut it up. Fenders for the '33 came back from the bodyman, even seemed to fit when we tried them out; but had to fix the lower edge of the frankenfender to better align with the running board. I'm sure they won't go back the same after the painter get at them. Grabbed a picture of the door wire giz I made from a screen door spring and a plastic coupler; surprised on how smooth they work. The ones from the kit were almost double the size and not at all compatible with the width of the B pillar.

 

better put a fence around that grille,id be like a scared cat around that,looks real nice. Harvey

 

Not a real Henry Ford grille tho; Nottingham repop that looks like a '33 grille; but not quite the same shape at the nose of the hood. It was a crappy old hood, so we didn't mind cutting it to fit.

Today I gave my 104th blood donation today to the Red Cross, spanning 41 years. O+ and CMV negative. What you see here is a "Power Red" contribution, 2 servings of Red Blood Cells. Babies and children can get my blood. That's why I keep donating.

 

I flipped my mountain bike broke a bone had blood everywhere rode my bike a mile to the hospital. But if they need a blood sample it's lights out for me

Drove down to Norwalk Ct early this morning to see about getting some paint mixed for my roadster windshield. Hit the paint store early and had them try and match my sample. Came pretty close. Now I will see if tb33anda3rd can get it right on. After the paint store I drove by an old friend, Jim's house to see if he was working out in the garage and he was. Jim is restoring a custom called the "Oriental" . This was his cousins car and Jim did much of the work the first time it was built. Then it was done over and then it burnt up in a fire. Jim ended up with the brunt out hull. and his mission has been to bring it back from the dead. From what I saw today he is succeeding. Not an easy task. Here are some pictures from my first part of the day.

I finally got some sunny weather so I spent the morning doing yard work, mowing and edging. About 5 acres so it took awhile.
Then to the fun stuff!
I spent the last four hours out in the sun starting the disassembly of my 50 Chevy parts car, it is getting stripped down all the way , I am using the frame for my Fleetline project. Of course everything is rusty and stuck together so I spent the whole time getting the front bumper and grille off the car. But hey, that is to be expected with old cars so it was a good day!

 

Part two of my day, met up with another old friend (Dave) that I sold a five window to some years back.

and another coupe he has.
After dissecting his stuff we drove up to Georgetown the Wire Mill Grill to meet up with some more friends.

Best day I have had in a long time!
Now if we can get my paint color right so I can get the roadster done.

June 19th 2020 Attached the wiper access covers with stainless steel self-tapping screws from a McMaster-Carr assortment I had in inventory and attached the rear view mirror screws and hex nuts with threadlocker blue. The hinge cover came with clips to attach it to the headliner cardboard. I wrestled the clips into place. That's not a bad thing. They are tight and I won't have to worry about them falling off while I have my hands full with the hinge cover.

Secured the hinge cover in the cab with the Philips head sheet metal screws that came with it. The ends have an alignment issue where they meet the A-pillar trim and door trim that requires some deep ponder mode thinking to finish this task. Background music was The Best of Eddie Cochran.

 

Relocated the shocks,made smaller(1 inch) lowering blocks,
made, what ever you call the braket that hold the leafsprings.
I feel safer with this scrubline.

 

Sent my 38 off to Australia. Going to miss her.

 

After a LONG day at work, Came home small dinner, Then grabbed the tools and finished Yanking the engine for the hotrod..

 

Went to visit my long time buddy (Chopped 30 here on the H.A.M.B.) at his new digs. We had a great BS and bench racing session. Checked out his projects and ended up with a truck load of hubcaps and wheel covers. He has the original molds for many glass lens for 30's and 40's cars, trucks and vintage motor cycles. He has them made at a glass factory, top of the line stuff! He also makes and sells custom signs. First class operation. Great guy and honest to deal with.
I know, pictures or it didn't happen but I don't want to post pictures with out the permission of the owner and I didn't tell him I was posting this shout out on the H.A.M.B.

Cleaned all the spider webs and egg pouch's on a pair of 55 56 5 x 15 wheels purchased for other 56. Then I mounted them on front hub of car to see if they were as true as they looked. Perfect! Not bad for $25 each. Time to blast and paint them.

 

Trying to work a deal on a muncie to replace busted saginaw in roadster.
Making progress but haven't come to terms yet...

 

Well, being my head is tired of getting hammered about everytime I stick it under the hood of the ole 47 ford, I contemplated getting one of those hydraulic hinge kits from speedway simply because it is supposed to lift the hood a bit higher. After asking around about how much higher the kit would raise the hood and getting no answers, I decided to see what I could do to improve the original setup. First thing I noticed was the upper bolts that attach the spring brackets were incorrect, 1/4 by 1 inch bolts, the bracket has a 3/8 hole and the hood has slightly loose 1/4 hole so went to Tractor supply and bought a couple of these brass bushings that were 3/8 outside by 1/ 4 inside with a little flange , they were 1/2 long so I stuck them in the spring bracket and sawed and ground them flush with the bracket , this in itself helped a little but also ground the stop tab on the spring bracket just a bit which let the bracket open up a little more and I gained several inches of clearance and also the hood opened and closed a lot better, oh I also hammered the large rivited hinge pin on the bracket to tighten it up .

Set the engine in the 56 wagon chassis.

 

Please forgive my dumb question, what is the transfer case looking thing on the transmission?

Spent yesterday re-cycling an old trailer hitch from my daughter's totaled OT minivan into a crossmember to mount my re-purposed '48 front wishbones. Tacked a piece of 1/2" plate as a strongback on the bottom after I got all the pieces fit together. Took it off after final welding and nothing warped. Damn, I'm good. Spent this morning getting it in place. Sticker on the hitch said it was good for 3500#s. Maybe I should build a lot stronger engine?

 

Not knocking your ingenuity but several HAMB vendors sell the correct shoulder bolts for your application.

 

Flat on my back, bulging lumbar disc. Ibuprofen and the HAMB keeping me sane. Anyone got any miracle cures, like snorting Alumaseal or anything?

 

Chiropractor or better yet an Osteopath?
