I knew that there was extensive rework that would be needed to make this a reality with extending hoods etc. I was thinking it was a matter of nesting the top aft center point of the shell into the front and center of the Hood and filling in the voids. I was also even thinking you might actually notch the shell into the hood depending on the desired look.

Could you just cut and widen the Grill Shell to fit the width of the hood. Adding material as needed?

Its no surprise of course that things happen easier in photoshop that in reality might be a huge metalworking undertaking but I know this is just what gets your creative juices flowing Sloppy...as for the A Shell no complaints here either...;)

Other way round, '37 shell is narrowed 2", radiator hits the inside of the shell now, and its hood to shell seam is still more than 2 inches too wide...
darn, I would have liked that look...
I could make a hood top that is wider in front but I will still have to find another '46-'47 comm. hood to start with...
    always do it later !

Some cypherins and goesintas are easier than others...

So I think what you're saying that grille you have is narrowed already...sometimes that modded part is a shadow of it's former self...still noticeable as what is was just different...

I do know from hanging around here that hood mods are pretty challenging depending on contours.

It's certainly doable as we have seen it done before...I have seen several some on 34 Fords...Still Dreaming Sloppy...;)

It's good to know down the road you may undertake the challenge and we'll be the first to know about it...Go Sloppy Go!!

... @sloppy jalopies here is a more completed version of what I worked on earlier...

I posted it in the Friday Art Show today to wow the Crowd...:D

It's 'Not Done Yet' but this is for Dreaming and Inspiration...Eh...;)

I know you have mentioned not going this route at this point but I wanted to push it a little further for hopefully a greater appreciation for what you were pondering...Have a great weekend Sloppy...:)

    A big thank you stogy,
    I like the "stogy look"...
you are going to make me search out another '42 [no script] or '46-'47 [script] truck hood...
and fab another hood and sides with a slight tilt back......but, i will hang onto the A combo...
wider at the front to fit the '37 truck grill,
[just happens to be the same width as my '34 International grill]… hmmmm.
need some more snow melt to get out scrounging ! DSCN5388.JPG

I take it you couldn't run a narrower rad setup...I mean you wouldn't want to widen it all and it look to wide and lose the look so to speak...perhaps you could fab the shell sides to fare to the sides and top of the hood while keeping the narrow profile it has now.

On other thing you could do is fab mini blisters to allow the grille to clear the I suspect 2 contact areas...

The thinking out loud with The Master of Fit...;)

That's what I do with everything … the old what if I ?
If I find another hood I will do more of a "how to" to make it fit the cowl and shell, in case others need an odd sized hood top...
the fact that the '37 truck grill and '34 International grills are the same size would give me 2 options
on which grill to run with the new hood top [justification ?]

  8. That build is so cool! I love the doors on the engine hood, really love the doors. The rear fenders and fill around the tank set it off to. Whats your actual final colour choice?
    Cheers,

    thanks josh,
I am color deficient, not color blind but I only see red, yellow, blue, green, brown etc...
burnt orange is just orange, or in some light, brown...
it will be painted a fleet color as I can't really see the difference in fine tuned OEM colors...
thinking machinery grey, may even flatten a color ?

  10. Admittedly I have not heard of someone being colour deficient before. So yes I suppose that does factor in to your colour choice. Me personally I have always been a fan of flat colours. Not suggesting anything, just commenting. In a world of flat blacks when I see a flat colour on a rod I think how cool is that! Greys work well to, when accented with other colours like black for example. I look foward to seeing what you come up with!
    Cheers,
    Josh

My '30 coupe avitar is painted with Wallmart close-out isle, $2.00 a can "gloss kahki"...
went to 3 different wallies to get the 9 cans I needed to cover the thing... I went by what the cap looked like... kind of a tan...
next time I will pick a color that will be around awhile...

  12. Hahaha its amazing how many rattle cans it takes to paint a car. Had a friend painted his white ford escort matt black with 2 cans. Still dont know how he managed it. Needless to say lasted about 3 weeks being so thin.
    Cheers,

I am color Challenged also......No Phone Cable future for Stogy...:D

The Glossing of Paint in PS isn't my biggest strength but I do my best...win some lose some...I had an Artistic moment of surreal triumph and the glow from the garage door amplified the capture of a dream...

I'm glad I fulfilled some some of Sloppy's thoughts with it...

I did consider tone, theme and era with the Tannish/Gold/Cream and subtle versus loud in color...I admit I wanted shinier (Body and Flame) but the Modded Concept including Sloppy's A Shell are I might think late 30s, early 40s plausibly ...Those flames or licks are perhaps early to mid 50s in style...I kind of think this is a more elegant Hotrod...

I might try one with the A shell as it sounds like the direction for now and looks really sharp as well...

I like the driven look and I certainly achieved flat to semi gloss and the tan certainly compliments the Hotrod fleet...:D

    thinking a carb and a points distributer w/ pertronics…
like that set up as if I have trouble I can pull the pertronics and screw in the points back in...

Paid for the truck today... it has 5 lug, 4.5" BC rear end and he thinks it has a 4.10 ratio...
should fit ok under a model A sportster... if I can't find a decent early bronco...

'96 Ford 4 cylinder landed this AM... runs good, but it needs an automatic from a Ranger or Aerostar van...? ?
any info on hop-up parts for these engines... interchange for points distributer and carb...
    ... hot tips... connections... ? ?

    from b.c.

The ranger/pinto 2.3L engine has lots of parts available. Even a turbo if you want to go that route. Cams, headers and even 4 bbl carb offenhauser intakes are available.

A friend had one in a ranger that he set up as an off-road race truck. With 5.13 gears and 31" tires it worked.

    Ran the gauntlet at jimmy's...
bought an OEM cowl band, new radiator mounting set [bolts, nuts, springs and pads,]
pr. OEM perches, pr. new cowl bolt to frame brackets... handy as gussets when needed...
wearing a mask tends to speed up my shopping pace...
when this c19 thing is over we rodders will be a shopping force, like sailors home on leave !
buying stuff we will never use just because we can...
till then we make a list and wait.

Picked up a pair of 15"s that look like 16"s,
don't know if they are the'46-'48 mercs or '58-'64 ish pick ups...
either will be narrower than today's truck rims... still in the trunk...

Those 2.3 Fords were the dominate engine in the mini-stock class at our roundy-round track.
