"Ford driver Bill Irland SS/C 11.90 - 12.00 1968" Remember I'm doing this stuff verbatim so there may be some corrections and this is one.

As stated early on these captioned photos are out of an old album a friend of mine loaned me so I could post here and plan on posting captions verbatim.

Mickey Thompson in left lane, here with Ardun power, racing Ed Losinski, with Chrysler power. Mickey would replace this crude body (with a Navy Corsair wing front for the opening) with a streamlined body when he got City of Panorama sponsorship. A Chrysler replaced the Ardun, before Mickey replaced it with a two-engine Chrysler car built from Manuel Coelho's dragster. Ed built his car originally with a flathead, but switched to a Chrysler, sometimes running Harry Duncan's 354"

    Hey Dave,
That is a keen eye on identifying the two early FED racers. We all know Mickey Thompson's history. But the last recorded film that I took of Ed Losinski was when Jack Chrisman was driving a similar FED at Lions in 1959-60.

(at :13 my brother is waiting his turn in the A/Stock class along the staging area in his 1958 Impala.)

The overall style and build looks similar. It is a few years off and a different location, so is it the same chassis?

    Thanks,
    Jnaki

As long as we are remembering old historic race cars, here is a puzzle. Since we are not posting the modern builds and copies from the internet, the identification gets difficult. This white modified roadster has always stumped me and some other old timers, as to who, what and type of build from 1959.
upload_2020-6-19_8-33-49.png Could it have been owned/driven and built by Leland Kolb with Fritz Voight in the team? We do know Fritz Voight was associated with Mickey Thompson during this time period, too. They were all Long Beach locals in the hot rod/drag race scene back then.

white roadster Howard Cam partial ID.

    Cripes!!!
The Fuel Cuda is kind of an "acquired taste" sort of car and not to everyones' liking.
I don't know what exactly attracts me to it but I just can't not study it every time I see it to see why I'm so attracted to it.
No single thing at least, may just be because there has never been anything quite like it.

It's because it is innovative. Most of the cars of that era were built to challenge every idea that was known at that time. There was this car, Randy Wall's Chevy ll, Ray Alley's Engine Masters cars, and so many others. These cars were made in a small garage or small chassis company. The racers said: hey lets try this or lets give this a shot. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it flopped big time.

Yeh, the innovations of that period were "hot rodder" driven for sure.
There were chain drive "sidewinder" dragsters, twins, four engine/four wheel drive dragsters, A/FX/altered wheelbase, rear engine funny cars, not to mention the standard combinations that were still competitive.
I think I've always been attracted to the oddballs, even the flops because there was still a lot of thought and engineering that went into them.
Even the first rear end dragsters of the 70's with the wheel pants, wedge bodies, etc were flops but to this day I still marvel at them.
