Those front lights are okay. There is a'55 Chevy on CL that has canted single headlights that throws off the front end now if the '55's rear treatment was on the "Astorian" with it would be just about perfect imho.

I like 61 Chevy steering wheels. That color just makes the car jump out at you.

“How lucky can one guy get?” I ask the same question every time you post a picture.

I dug through the petersen archives and found these shots of the Astorian

I was going through some boxes of junk the other day, and came upon some old magazines. One of them was a January 1982 Super Chevy that had coverage of the 1981 Classic Chevy Convention in Dearborn , MI. I attended that convention and when I pulled in, was given a key ring with a number on it. That was my assigned parking space. Parked next to me was the Astorian. I had no idea what it was, just that it was pretty cool. I finally realized it's significance when I joined the HAMB and read about it. Well, in the article is a photo of the Astorian as it was parked for the show and shine portion. Somewhere, I have one or two shots of the car that I took. I need to go through the 15,000 photos and slides I have and try to find them. Scan.jpg

Superb collection. The A brothers, what could have been if thay didn't have such bad luck with location's. Did Mike ever get the book he wanted published? Love to have a copy if he did.

Mike did talk about a book, he also talked about trying to find the unfinished ford ranchero project the Alexandria, the one with I think pontiac quarter panels? but the book didn't happen and the unfinished custom was not found that I know of....

On a side note how many sectioned 50s ford's do you no of mark. I've just googled the alexandria and there's 2 photos on the hamb of the rear quarters, maybe somebody will take on a clone project, not as good as the original I no but better than nothing?

I no now I should of read your link first. Anyway I see a lot of people would like to see a clone if the Real deal cannot be found, who would take on a task like this, when there would be a lot of criticism if this or that was not just so.

might be tough to clone, as it was never finished, so the front end styling could be subjective. there are drawings though..... as far as the sectioned ford shoeboxes, there are quite a few around, some better than others...

Cheers Mark, let's hope the original is found and somebody has taken care of it then. And on the Ford there's one over here in England said to have been built in the 50's 60's that came from colorado a couple of years back. Thanks I hope to see your cars at a show one day. All the best Tim

Damn Mark, every time you post pics of the herd grazing outside, I notice an unmentioned nugget or three (some OT I understand) that definitely pique my interest...

amps are just to the left of the steering column, just above the zero. you may notice that the oil and amp gauges are where the wiper sw and ignition sw are supposed to be. the ignition switch is just above the heater control. the key has a teardrop dash knob on it, so it doesn't look like a key....

Yup, and the humps on top have been lowered a lot....Kinda crude how they did it. When you look from underneath you see air chiseled slits and then the humps were hammered down and just upholstered over.....

Its one thing to have a collection of full customs, but to actually drive and enjoy them is another thing. Congratulations ! Thank you for sharing.
