    Hello,

My wife surprised me on Monday with an offer to go see our old neighborhood in Laguna Beach. We know that all of our neighbors have since moved on to other things and places. (including our close friends across the street from us that moved to Chicago many years ago.) The neighborhood has changed over the years and our old house is still standing. It, too, has changed.

But, on the winding road back down to the downtown area, we came across this typical Laguna Beach artist’s sculpture in front of a house. Luckily, I did not have to swerve over the cliff when I saw it. My wife took this photo and we laughed all the way into the downtown area.

As we were laughing, the traffic seemed quite busy for a Monday. It is a June Summer day and the traffic was similar to any Summertime from 1960 to today, even with the social distancing rule still in place. People were out as if nothing was happening and I am sure we will all see a rise in the total numbers of the pandemic facts. But, putting that notion aside, we were on our way to see an old hot rod that was for sale at a place out in Laguna Canyon. It was a 1940 Ford 2 door sedan that was nicely done and had everything we would like on a “newish” hot rod for us. (you can’t take it with you…HA! )

Yes, we should not have been out and about, but my wife and I have been really good about social distancing and locked in place rule as given in So Cal. There still is a war going on and we should all be doing our part of isolation. So, she decided to take a short road trip to our old neighborhood in Laguna Beach and see this 1940 Ford sedan at the same road trip. Plus, she wanted a full tank of gas on the way home for any emergencies, etc.

As we mentioned before, any Summer in Laguna Beach has always created a nightmare of traffic jams every day and double that on the weekends. But, with this pandemic going on, we thought it would be fairly empty because of the isolation and social distancing. Boy, were we wrong. The traffic from South Laguna Beach near Ruby’s Auto Diner into the downtown area was jammed both ways. If we had a 4 speed, it would have been 1st and 2nd only. This was pure Summertime stop and go traffic.

Luckily, we took our local road knowledge to see our old neighborhood, but got caught in the jammed up streets as we got closer to the downtown/canyon area. We could not get out of the nearby downtown area, so we had to turn around and take the back roads to safety and sanity.

There will be another time and we will look forward to it. But, will have to carefully pick and choose the time/date. Stay safe and sane…

From this past weekend's road trip. While I've really grown tired of
cowl induction hoods and polished Torq Thrusts, this was one pretty
good looking car. Genoa City, Wi.

Saw an old Chrysler on TV with some odd features, had to look it up. 1956 Imperial. Tail lights on top of the quarter panel? And a built in stainless steel sun visor.

Out for a walk after dinner a couple nights ago, I was surprised to find this outside a small private repair shop

Looks like a lot of work. Was last registered in the 1980s, going by the window stickers. Needs pretty much everything.

Another road trip discovery in Chicago's backyard on the way up to Lake
Geneva, Wisconsin. I'd never heard of a Highlander Windsor, or Windsor
    Highlander for that matter.

A over packed parking lot at Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach. Not just cars but people too....Almost no face masks and distancing was non-existent. 7C033407-3517-4BA6-8956-BFD98D666301.jpeg

How rare is this. This wagon was the nicest I’ve ever seen. I talked to the owner and he told me most of the paint was original including air cleaner and fire wall. Love the two door I never knew they existed.[IMG][IMG]
