Jason the Shoes are Rear Correct?

The Shoes 48 -66 Fit setups regardless of Hub and Backing plate?

  2. I believe they are the same shoes front and rear. But I always use the front shoes and hardware for a 66 f100. Works on F1 and F100. Just have to remove or notch the grease baffles for the adjuster cable. The front wheel cylinders are the same part numbers between F1 and F100. They will interchange between 48 to 67.

They might not work out, but the knurled part of the stud sticks out past the hub face and seems to center the drum accurately. I will check it again when I start to put together the brake components, thanks.

I have both F1 hubs and '53 F-100 hubs. The F1 hubs have a "pilot" hole of 2.79" for the drum and the F-100 hub "pilot" is like 3.15". So how are you saying the '66 Bronco rear drums fit on both when they have the smaller 2.79" pilot? Is there a different later drum that fits the F-100 hubs?

Gotcha...Now the Drum I listed for the 53 F100 is for the 53 Ford F100 Front Brake Drum...So Maybe the F100 only take

The 47-52 F1 hubs take the Newer Bronco rear drums I believe

    1980-86 Ford F100/150
    1980-86 Bronco

    Duralast Brake Drum 8951

    And....

    F100 Hubs
(1953–1956) Second Generation F series Ford

    53-56 F100 1/2 ton Front Brake Drum
    Duralast Brake Drum 8163

@Nailhead Jason, I guess 53 F100 hubs won't take Bronco drums at all...is that correct by you I just want clarification...Ford and their F series holee...

  8. I think some of the confusion is that Jason was referencing certain Bronco front drums that are the same part as F-100 front drums; which is a totally different deal than using Bronco rear drums on F-1 hubs.

F-1 and F-100 front backing plates are all the same from '48-'56 (most are Bendix some are Ford Kelsey Hays).

The difference is in the Hubs. The flanges on F-100 hubs are further inboard than F-1 hubs as shown in the attached pictures. This is what determines the drum needed.

If you have F-100 hubs, you just need to ask for '53-'56 F-100 drums and you will get what you need.

If you have F-1 hubs, you just need to ask for '80 Bronco REAR drums and you will get what you need.

  9. Maybe this was already answered; but F-1 & F-100 front shoes are 2" wide; while the rear shoes are 1-3/4" wide.

Yes, the same 2" shoes are used with both F-1 and F-100 brake set-ups (same wheel cyls and hardware, too).

What would you think of making a 'spacer' the same thickness as the drum, that would fit snugly inside the drum hole diameter, with a few tack welds ground flush. Then with the diameter to fit snugly over the 'shoulder boss' on the hub?

I've done this with no problems

  12. seal 49195 is for a 1.5” shaft and the early Ford spindles I have actually have a 1.562” diameter shaft and seal number 473441 works perfect for 1 9/16” early Ford seal shaft diameter.

RIP Randy! The inner bearing worked perfect for my hubs.

I wouldn't get my undies in a knot worrying why Ford (or others for that fact) used a 1-3/4 shoes on a 2 inch or even wider drum. Ford was famous for doing the this set of brakes or this width of shoe for this engine combo from the late 50's up into the late 70's at least. I found that out in the early/mid 70's doing brakes in the Firestone store in down town Waco Tx. Get a GM or most Mopars in and no problem get the shoes ordered and go to work and have it apart when the parts got there. Get a mid 60's Ford in and you had better take it apart first and know what engine and trans combo it had and a few other things.
You would get a lot of rigs in that the wear in the drum from the shoes left a track with untouched surface on both sides the shoe. No big deal if the shoes matches what was supposed to be on the rig.
