Notice the Gophers plaques. These two are early ones where they had the number on them. The number designated rankings amongst the club. Kind of an early version of "Street Outlaws". The one in my avatar is from my Dad and does not have the numbers.
That car is just so clean, do the original photos show the unwanted frame holes welded in? Top is perfect too. Bob
Jack and Fred built this roadster before Jack passed. Not exactly traditional, fiberglass, SBC, etc., etc., but he does still have the original Gophers plaque. Also has one of his Dad's trophy's along with an original first copy of Hot Rod!!!!!
In parting I will just say I hope this will encourage Chris to restore this great car for future generations. Hope you all have enjoyed. Be safe and enjoy our Hobby!!
I noticed in the old pics that the later iterations of the roadster the hinges were faired. Does the current Brizio version still have the faired hinges?
Add me to the list of people who would love to see this car restored back to it's original glory. It needs to be painted anyway, at the very least it should be that same color green, with a smooth hood and a wishbone. Flathead could be swapped in later if funds don't allow a complete rebuild all at once. Woodiemike's pictures and history lesson add so much to the story, that stuff is priceless. Thanks for sharing with us, Woodiemike.
Never gets old seeing my grandpa's name in those results from the '47 SCTA meets. His name was Powell Dickerson and he's listed there in the C roadsters. My avatar is a picture of his old car. What I wouldn't give to go back in time... If I was ever able to find that old deuce roadster I'd probably be selling a kidney and anything else I can get by without to get my hands on it!
You are very welcome Squablow! I have always felt that the more we can put out there for our community to share, the better we are ALL for it!! Here is some info out of the SCTA program September 21, 1947.
There is a listing on IG for various artifacts of Jacks. Timing tag, SCTA programme, even his sunglasses from the time! jwjohnston41 is the IG name of the person selling them. Cheers, Stewart.
Bttt...just because... I wonder if things have changed at all on the survivor...with such provenance it sure as heck would be worth its weight in gold transformed back to its former glory...
Good news! I bought a flathead motor and will be tearing the car apart this fall to begin the "loose" resto on Jack's car. I do need some parts. Please reach out if you have anything I may need: Stromberg carbs, linkage, AOD trans (for driveability), etc..... I just saw the post above about the artifacts for sale on IG. I do not have IG, is there anyone who can get in touch with this guy and give my info? [email protected] Thank you all for the motivation to get this process started! Chris Julis
Could you post some pictures of the car presently. Is it a driver right now? Good luck with everything.
