Plastigage hero. Building an engine is like breakfast. The chicken is involved, but the pig is committed.
Picked up my Rochester 4GC carb from the rebuilder, Mr John Thomas in Bulverde, Tx. Very happy with the result and it was a total accident that I found out he rebuilt carbs while I was picking up some stray parts he wanted to get rid of.
It is paint, not plating. Probably Eastwood, but I was not expecting this level of finishing, bare metal would have been fine with me.
Damn you are all over Texas delivering and picking up parts! Truck will be sweet when you get it done. That color you chose will look great!
C’mon....let’s get rolling. There has to be something you can work on......if not, come over and work on mine...
Do you have John Thomas’ contact information? I can use his services. r Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Well, a big change in the build. We just closed on a new house and this is my very own garage, separate from the house. It was built by a car guy (53 Chevy and Studebaker Avanti) thanks Walter.
Progress has stalled somewhat with our move to the new digs and extracting from the existing house. Doing maintenance and repair projects on both. On the new house to make it "home" and on the old house to make it marketable. I continue to acquire bits and pieces, just doing a poor job of actually installing them..
Actually did something today. Retrieved the bed from my brother's house. It suffered the fate of most old pickups, being turned into a rudimentary trailer. This one is a 42-46 bed, so it will need to be narrowed 3 inches. The front panel is pretty bad, so a new replacement is needed. Oddly, the sides have no dents at all. Preparing to de-trailer. Un-trailering. Or as my wife calls it "9...1...." Great success. Not a bad little frame actually. Uses 48-54 Chevy front spindles. Those tires made their last trip when I bought it. Had to stop and air them up 3 times in a 20 mile trip. Sent from my SM-G965U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

I missed this thread when it started and, thanks to your post on my build, I found it. I wonder; if you used a front panel from a 40-41 bed and the sub-frame for a 40-41 bed with your bed-sides, would that work?
Joel, you are correct. The side panels of 42-47 are the same, at least according to the info I have read. The subframe outer longitudinal rails are supposed to be different but I cannot see how. But I don't have anything to compare against.
Thanks to YBNormal, I now have a cab with ZERO rot ANYWHERE. This will put me years ahead instead of working patches and waves on the current cab. Obligatory pics:

He he, no, YBNormal had a tractor with lifting forks. He already had it suspended in the air when we arrived. Just had to drop it in. Gotta love farm equipment. Sent from my SM-G965U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
