My buddy just bought one and it is scary. Front steering and suspension needs to be redone. Straight axle job is horrible. Does anybody have one of these and can give me some pointers on how they did theirs. Will be a drag car, most likely not driven on the street. It has a 396 and a turbo 400. Any help would be appreciated to keep my buddy alive!
No pix, but is straight axle, spacers between springs and axle for more lift, steering box looks like it was mounted by Stevie Wonder, and welded by Ray Charles. I am looking for pictures and advice what people have used on these cars specifically. Will definitely save some trial and error on our part. We are most likely going to start over with all new components, just want a starting point.
I will try to get some pix. It’s a street freak kinda thing now, but will be a gasser when it’s done.
Look on the Southeast Gassers at the Rambler American that runs with that group. It goes straight down the track and wins races.
I told my buddy about the blocks and wheels already. He agrees. You should see how long the rear shackles are!
That's like trying to walk on stilts let alone trying to run. There isn't a magic answer here. The axle should be OK set up properly.
High boy's used to be cool back in the 70's . they drove like shit . I had a 55 Belair that sat about like that Rambler .I drove it everyday and it was a handful. Thank goodness the 409 that was in it was a slug so I didn't kill myself. Straight axle cars do not have to give you a nose bleed when you get in them. Check out my avatar it was 11 inches from the pavement to the bottom of the body measured from right behind the front tire. You could drive it with one hand at 100 mph after I put a steering stabilizer on it.
Man I really dig this car! It's exactly what I want to do to mine. You mentioned that you're taking it to more of a drag car than street? If so, are you going to use the original gas tank? If not, I sure would be interested in buying it from you. If it's in decent shape. By the way, if you ever need any extra parts, I have plenty! Practically a complete floor pan, and a extra gas tank too! Let me know if you're interested! Lol! Sent from my SM-G960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
