OK I'll bite. I see a '56 or '57 Corvette (probably '57) modified for racing in B Production SCCA racing. Educate me, what makes this car the result of a COPO?

Please don't get me wrong I do appreciate some description included with a photo.

Rumblegutz, I don't know about being COPO so I won't comment on that. But I do know the car. It is an airbox '57, one of 43 produced and a race car since new. Cold air induction for the fuel injection from a hokey looking fiberglass box that makes the car worth tons. Maybe Dave will elaborate as he knows the car better then I.

I'm aware of the air box cars. The air box being part of RPO579E. RPO as in Regular Production Option which in this case seems a misnomer. So by definition would not require a COPO. The mods we see on this car were performed after the car was produced. As a general rule modifications were not performed at the St Louis Assembly plant.

So the question remains what about this car makes it a COPO?

That car's wearing a licence plate. Wonder if it is or was street driven and how it rode.

Not a COPO, but definitely one of the original 43 airbox 57 Corvettes. This particular
car is the most documented 57 Airbox racer. It still gets out and stretches its legs
    occasionally.

Or stopped with those skinny 12 spoke Americans and no front brakes. ;)

The Don Yenko/Ed Lowther car at Sebring in 1962. Despite tearing the car up early in the race they managed to finish in 19th place. Here is a shot prior to the damage with Yenko dicing with Innes Ireland in the Ferrari that he shared with Stirling Moss.
