More time than money so I made a few for the front of my shop. Nice thing is I don't have to worry about having them outside. Next project is to build a sign post and make a Mobil station sign for it.
Todd (Va.HAMB ) got this cool old sign that was from the old Lousia drag strip. Sent from my SM-G920P using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Does anyone know anywhere to buy old signs like these? Especially ones related to welding, machining, metal work. I would love some for my workshop.
Real "old" ones are harder to find. I've found cool stuff just asking around older shops. Usually they would have something. Now a days everyone thinks their stuff is gold. Getting harder every day. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Here's a couple of signs once used at Camp Beale in California. During WW2, my grandfather was stationed there in preparation for deployment to the Pacific. These signs were found in the garage of a former maintenance shop worker at the base. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
This is great, I got this similar one (top left) from the BobK estate, no idea where it came from but apparently there was a big problem with people swimming in cutoff shorts there. And while I'm at it, here's some new ones hung on my shop's bathroom door. The "Ulcer Dept" one was hand painted for a hospital but never used.
anyone have a 1912 Ford T sign saved as line art? I would like to make a template to paint one up for my shop wall. I guess I could have this blown up and plotted.
I wonder if you cut that out from a regular size print if you could cast a shadow on the wall to get the shape.
I picked up a overhead projector for $5 that I use sometimes if the image is complicated. You do have to make a tracing of the image you want on a transparent sheet to use on the overhead projector. There are newer type computer projectors that are used for presentations. You may be able to find one of them to use. I just hung my newest sign, not old but the Bear image is vintage.
I'm kind of surprised that there are not more people posting to this thread. Just to keep it moving here are a couple more vintage style signs I recently made.
Heck yeah, that thing is huge @1Shot, very cool ! Sent from my SM-A205U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You should just copy this and have it scanned and blown up as far as it will go with out losing any resolution, spendy but you can have big decals made of it to mount on metal, make sure you request the decal to have UV resistant ink if you are going to display it outside. Good luck !
If you all are ever lucky enough to be invited to the annual Gas Up at Mendenhalls out in Buelton California, you will see, where all of the really cool great signs wound up at. I love the automotive stuff, but the blackbird store sign is my favorite, its really well done. All of the signs at this place are treasures!
Here's one I made I few years ago. It is not actually old (well obviously I just said that), but the Santa face is copied from a clip art of the 30s-40s book I have. And the lettering is based off of an old Christmas card. It's just one-shot on plywood, it's held up pretty good after spending 3 winters in front of the house. I started painting signs that I like on my garage wall when they told me I can’t leave the house. It’s fun and soooo much cheaper! I know I should be working on the car tho. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
