I was watching a short on the development of motion picture cameras this morning. Up came this shot of a SW feet/min - frame/min gauge mounted on the side of a camera or projector. Sorry for the crappy pic.

Members here obviously collect and use vintage auto gauges. This got me thinking about what other non-auto applications these famous manufacturers made products for? 20200531_055444.jpeg

I mentioned in the “Old tools with memories “ thread that I have the Klein Tools long nose pliers my mom used on the radio line at Stewart-Warner. What I didn’t say was the radios were not for automobiles, S-W marketed table model radios.

  3. SW and Klein Tool were both Chicago based companies back in the day.

Don’t know the year but I’ve had this 16mm camera for a long time. Inside, a little hot rod flair.

If SW was located within the Chicago city limits at one time I don't
know where that was. I could swear, though, that SW had either a
corporate office or manufacturing plant in a far west suburb, perhaps
along Rt 38 (Roosevelt Road) or Rt 64 (North Avenue).

I just looked at a temp gauge and amp gauge I have on my workbench
that I've had for years. The amp gauge has a "Made In Taiwan" label.
And this has nothing to do with the topic of cameras or radios.

Phil, thanks for providing the link, that's some history. I stand corrected.
Could I have actually been thinking SUN, though I haven't found a Wiki
page on that company. I was sure I remembered one of the two companies
located in west Chicagoland. History is kool, memories can be deceiving.
