Hot Rods Brake pedal ratio?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 550Coupe, May 29, 2020.

  1. Was ordering a new front disc brake kit from Wilwood and when what type master cyl came up I was asked what was my brake pedal ratio, that it should be a 6:1 ratio. I really wasn't sure. I'm using an early Ford (1941) brake pedal assembly. Does anybody know off hand or know where I can find this information? Thanks in advance for any help.

    6:1 works for me.
Used on '60's hardware fitted into
    Early Fords

  3. So are you saying my 41' ford pedal IS 6:1? That's what i need to know. Thanks

Only that it is a Std. Ratio used often for non power brakes. Master & wheel cylinder bores play a role in your system.

It's probably just over 6:1, but you could measure it to know for sure. ;)

Wilwood asked me the same question. My non power brake car was 5-1. It still works great non power because they can control it with the diameter of the master cylinder. The smaller the M/C the less pressure your foot needs but the move it needs to travel. (Fluid dynamics). I put smaller rear wheel cylinders to help with this too. Personal opinion but power brake cans under the hood look like shit to me. I realize yours under the floor if you wanted one.

  7. Here's a picture of a '40's pedal; little better than 6:1 ratio.
