My DeSoto wagon has electric wipers, a huge deal in 1952 compared to the vacuum wipers other cars of the day had. With the new engine, 12V negative ground system, as opposed to the old 6V positive ground, I wondered if they'd be compatible. I didn't want to toss them and have to re-engineer (cobble up) something different.

So, yesterday I took one of the two wiper switches I have, wired it up, and jumped it with the charger on 6V, positive ground. After I figured out which lead to plug in where, they worked fine on both speeds, and parked. Then I tried 12V, negative ground. Again, ran on both speeds, a little faster, still parked. My initial thought was to just leave things be, but I just found a 12V to 6v, 25A converter, for $25, and it's on it's way!

One more thing checked off the list... 96541589_10223334131724173_1905740627765624832_n.jpg

In a couple of my 55 Chryslers 6 volt negative ground wiper motor, I used 1956 Chrysler 12 volt positive ground motors and they worked ok

I think that buying the converter was a wise move.
Just be careful where you mount it, it may get a little warm.
