I got a text with no information except these two photo. So congrats on your award. I have spoken to him a couple of times since i got the text but keep forgetting to ask about it as we're talking about his coupe build. But i guess he's always been a legend to me. Theres a thing in our family that dad gets to a car run and usually gets about 10 feet from his coupe and no further. Not because he's put his but in a lawn chair, more by 6ft someone has bailed him up for a chat. Half the time its the end of the day and he's not looked at the cars. Regardless congrats Dad on receiving recognition for doing what you love doing. "Promoting " hot rodding.
That is awesome....you can be proud he's your Dad.... He's setting an example that can be a challenge to follow
Thanks everyone for the nice comments, much appreciated but I don't think that I'm really Legend material. I'm just an old bugger that likes hot rods like all of us here on the HAMB. Ted, great photo- Corey and I had a great trip that time and got to spend time with you , Mark and Bob. Bob- love your new avatar, you'll be able to swap dog stories with Mark now. And I guess I better thank Corey (flatoz) for starting this thread, so thanks Corey.
Met Your Dad in 2012 at Chopped & yes we did talk for hours, very interesting man. Congratulations Pete very well deserved, sorry I mean Legend
Well the how, where and when was like this. Your mother tricked me into taking my coupe for a run (hadn't been out since your run) to deliver some club photo albums to Carol at Rod Hadfields museum at 2.15 on Friday arvo 15th May. I even had a shave and put on my best flanno (family joke)LOL Larry from ASR turned up then Bruce Helms-Vic ASRF Director arrived in his 50 Stude coupe and handed me and Rod the plaques. I was stunned- definitely not expecting that. The why bit I don't know as there are heaps of people more active and more worthy of the award than me. Apparently the ASRF are giving out 2 awards in each state and the recipients will have their names on a board in each states clubrooms.
Thanks for that Charlie, was it really that long ago? You're a Legend yourself with all your hot rodding and drag racing activity plus your passion for Oldsmobles really sets you apart from the rest.
I found this photo taken a few years ago, swifty with another legend at morning coffee one Saturday morning
Congratulations, we have never met (10,000 miles away) but have been aware of your coupe for many years, always thought it was pretty damn well perfect. Gordon.
Thanks for the kind words Gordon. I've got another 32-5 window on the go now and flatoz has started a build thread on it. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/swiftys-new-32-5w-coupe-build.1194324/
Now there is a REAL legend. We were lucky to spend lots of time with Tex (RIP) over the years that he was here in Castlemaine
Hey that's me with hair LOL You should post that in @Stogy thread for half fendered hot rods. Hadn't got around to making the fronts when that pic was taken in 1966. Rears were cut-down trailer fenders and fronts were 36 tire rings.
...Congratulations @swifty on being honored for your involvement in Hotrod...and The Half Fendered Thread is always open for those that enjoy to share the in between look. I believe it's not very popular in Oz being a Law...I embrace it as it was just another look in Hotrod Historically and pretty awesome at that... Hopefully things are opening up a bit your way to get out in those Hotrods... Good on you @flatoz having this special bond with your Dad and sharing the good times...
